THE CLOSER (SERIES FINALE)

Kyra Sedgwick, who plays the lead character on The Closer, decided she would make this her final season as Brenda Leigh Johnson. “I want to leave when we’re on top,” Sedgwick said. The ensemble cast will go on in 2012 as a spin-off, Major Crimes. But, without Kyra Sedgwick, I’m doubtful about its success. Until then, we’ll have a dozen or so episodes of The Closer to enjoy. I plan to enjoy every moment.

I like the blend of comic and serious episodes on THE CLOSER, Patti. I’m hoping these last episodes aren’t all dark.

I’m doubtful too, as Mary McDonnell’s character is too annoying as written and played. They may try and soften her. We’ll see. I want to see if Flynn and Provenza and the rest will be in it.

Spin-offs don’t have a great track record, Jeff. I’ll watch MAJOR CRIMES after THE CLOSER ends, but I’m dubious about its survival.

THE CLOSER is one of the best crime dramas on cable, Rick. But, after this extended seventh season, the star of THE CLOSER, Kyra Sedgwick, is leaving.

Decent episode but Mary didn’t persuade me she has the oomph to carry the show. She is too enigmatic too. Neat surprise ending.

Kyra Sedgwick says her character, Brenda Leigh Johnson, will be “tormented” this season, Patti. Like you, I’m not sure Mary McDonnell’s character is strong enough to carry a spin-off series.

The Closer is my favorite show of all time, and that is saying alot. Kyra Sedgewick is a perfect fit to portray this amazingly strong, intelligent, vunerable, quirky, sexy, caring, and kind character who always managed to make everyone else look good at her own expense. The show manages to draw you in and make you feel like a part of their family….I’ve seen every episode from the first one to last night’s and have never been disappointed as the show never fails to entertain and often teach us a lesson if you are listening carefully. The last two week’s leading up to the finale have been emotional for those of us who love the show…hated to lose Willie Rae, and so glad we finally got the “leak” question answered, though I am proud to say I figured it out 2 weeks ago….just hope the Phillip Stroh issue gets resolved and Brenda finally gets him. I am not sure I am ready to see Raydor in Brenda’s chair right after Brenda leaves, so I wll probably say my goodbyes and enjoy the 7 seasons on dvd. Thank you TNT for sponsoring this great show.

Your reactions to THE CLOSER are very close to mine, Brenda. The ensemble cast featured character development that drew people into the program. Although Kyra Sedgewick was clearly “The Star,” you’re right about her sharing the important roles in each episode with her fellow actors. THE CLOSER had a terrific cast. I’m going to give the spin-off, MAJOR CRIMES, a try. But it won’t be the same…

They left the door wide open for Kyra to show up from time to time in MAJOR CRIMES if she feels like it, Charlotte. We already know Fritz will be a character in MAJOR CRIMES.
