This qualifies as a BARGAIN OF THE THE WEEK. You can have all six season of 3rd Rock From the Sun on 17 DVDs for only $18.99 on AMAZON! That’s about a dollar a DVD! I’m a big fan of the cast: High Commander, Dick Solomon (John Lithgow), Doctor Albright (Jane Curtin) decorated military officer, Sally (Kristen Johnston), seasoned intelligence specialist, Tommy (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Harry (French Stewart). With this set you get all 139 episodes and these Extras: Candid Interviews, Best Of Moments, Blooper Reels, Season Highlights, Audio Commentaries, Episode Previews, The Alternate FINAL EPISODE Ending. What’s your favorite 3rd Rock episode?
I watched it sometimes but never really thought it was special! Must be my lousy sense of humor!
Bob, I’m a big fan of John Lithgow. He was excellent in this wacky series.
I USED TO LOVE THIS BUT IT HAS BEEN FAR TOO LONCH SINCE I WATCHED IT – I DO REMEMBER THAT EPISODE IN WHICH THEY DECIDE TO GET A NEW AV SYSTEM WHICH THEN ESCALATES INTO INSANE PURCHASES REALLY MAKING ME LAUGH.
Sergio, that was one of the funniest episodes! Good choice!
I like the episode where Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin have to stop Tracy Morgan from being part of a dog-fighting gang…oh wait, that’s 30 ROCK! I’m afraid I didn’t watch much 3rd ROCK when it was on–I do remember a funny line where Kristen Johnson buys a whole bunch of women’s magazines and, after reading them, says it’s as if Earth women are part of some weird estrogen cult.
Deb, my favorite episode is when John Lithgow’s character starts smoking. Jane Curtain, his girlfriend, cautions him on the dangers of smoking. Curtain says, “Smoking will take years off your life!” Lithgow responds, “Yes, but those are crappy years at the end of your life.” Best defense of smoking I’ve ever heard!
Melissa liked the show but it made me leave the room. Even when I found bits to be funny it just didn’t click with me. It is a good bargain, though, but still not for me.
Rick, you’re right that the early yeas of 3rd ROCK FROM THE SUN were the best.
I agree, the earlier years were the best. I really enjoyed it, but probably missed the last season or so (this was before DVR and recording 5 shows at once)
I don’t remember enough about them to remember a favorite. And hasn’t Joseph Gordon-Levitt really grown as an actor?
Maggie, you’re right about Joseph Gordon Levitt. 3rd ROCK was his Big Break.
He started out as D. J.’s weird, annoying friend on ROSEANNE. Then he was David Hyde-Pierce’s son on the often amusing John Forsythe sitcom THE POWERS THAT BE.
Jeff, he’s come a long way from ROSEANNE.
I was watching old quantum leaps, and he was on one of those
Maggie, the guy gets around.
Wonderful ensemble in this show. Jane Curtin did a wonderful interpretation of Margaret Dumont.
Dan, Jane Curtin had great chemistry with John Lithgow.
I love the one where Dick and Officer Don go to see the Lord of the Prance. I also loved all the little aside comments, like when the four of them were all reading Grisham books, which were basically interchangeable.
This was probably the last comedy I really loved. I put this in my Amazon cart.
Jeff, I think this COMPLETE set a bargain for the price.
I’m not sure if I watched any episodes, but I recall liking the theme song.
Rick, I found 3rd ROCK a lot of fun. And, I like the theme song, too!
Does this set include the episode with the 3D sequences – and the wherewithal to watch them?
I mean, I’m probably going to get this anyway, but I would appreciate knowing ahead of time ..
Mike, I’m not sure about the 3D sequences. But, I assume COMPLETE means complete.
That smoking joke was 30 years old before the show ever aired!
Bob, but Lithgow delivered his defense of smoking so convincingly!
Haven’t watched this at all – though it must have been on German tv, probably in some late night spot.
But I generally have a problem with US sitcoms – does this also have “canned laughter”? That’s one thing I’ve always hated.
Wolf, I’m with you on “canned” laughter. But it was a staple of U.S. sitcoms…and still is.
If the shows are really funny, I find I laugh out loud over the canned laughter and don’t notice it.
Maggie, I do that, too! But the comedy has to be really, really funny!
