THE GATE AT LAKE DRIVE By Shaun Meeks

The Gate at Lake Drive is another one of those “scary” books I read last week to get into the Halloween spirit. Dillon is a monster hunter. He “protects” Northern Ontario in Canada against creatures from another dimension. When a stripper named Rouge Hills hires Dillon, a new and more sinister plot unfolds. If you’re a fan of Jim Butcher’s “Dresden Files” series, you’ll enjoy this off-beat urban fantasy. GRADE: B-

I stopped reading (and watching …) horror a long time ago – don’t understand the fascination at all.

The only movies we used to watch as students (late night, cheap price) were the stuff, that British Hammer Film made in the 50s/60s – those were funny in a way.
Did they show these also in the USA?
The Frankenstein and Dracula series were my favourites when I was young …

I just watched a Hammer movie on Turner Classic Movies. It was one of the few with Christopher Lee as the Hero. Based on a Dennis Wheatley novel, but the title escapes me now. for being nearly 50 years old, was good. Not worth watching again

    PS:
    Since we’re all adults here:

At first glance I was kind of surprised to read “Dillon the monster dick series” 🙂

Prashant, THE GATE AT LAKE DRIVE has all the elements you like. I suspect that Shaun Meeks will write more of these urban fantasy adventures if this book sells enough.

Wolf, the short answer is yes. The British Hammer films were shown in the US and I saw a number of them. I went through a horror movie phase back in the ’80s but rarely watch them these days, though I did recently watch the EVIL DEAD trilogy again to prepare for the new television series ASH Vs. EVIL DEAD.

George, I’ve seen that book and love the cover, though I was also taken aback by the “Monster Dick” label.

Not for me, but this could be the thing that’s caused our plumbing emergency this morning. Ugh and Phew! The plumber has arrived, and will snake the kitchen drain, and we’re hoping that’s all that’s required. Besides writing the check, of course. Now THAT’S scary.

Rick, plumbing problems are always costly. Good thing it didn’t happen on a weekend. A friend of mine had a similar problem last weekend and had to pay $160 per hour to the plumber! Yikes!
