If you’re in the mood for a farcical cop movie, The Heat will make you laugh. Sandra Bullock plays a prim and proper FBI agent. Melissa McCarthy plays a scruffy, street-smart Boston cop. Together they seek to bring down a mysterious drug lord. But, of course, their partnership is fraught with problems. Both women are dealing with personal problems. The clash of personalities is amusing. But the on-screen chemistry works. This is silly summer fun! A sequel is already in production. GRADE: B
Phil hasn’t succumbed to my suggestions to see this one yet. We did see 20 Feet From Stardom, which we liked.
As mentioned this is near the top of Jackie’s list.
Jeff, you and Jackie will laugh during THE HEAT.
Patti, we hope to see 20 FEET FROM STARDOM this week. Phil would find himself laughing watching THE HEAT.
I’ve seen this twice. I still have to get Joe to it. One of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time.
Beth, I had a laugh attack when Melissa McCarthy was crawling out of her car (and the car next to hers!).
I’ve long thought Bullock is tres sexy, but as for farcical cop movies, I’m not the target audience. I’ll stay home and read Judge Dee mysteries (see my current post).
Rick, if you’re in the mood for a slap-stick comedy, THE HEAT fits the bill. It’s so silly you just have to laugh. But Judge Dee is very good, too!
I thought it was terrible. About as funny as an Adam Sandler movie.
Steve, it helps you see THE HEAT after dinner where plenty of wine was consumed (like I did).
I’ll pass.
Slapstick? Nope, I got enough of that with some early Chaplin and Kenton films, thanks.
About time there was a distaff take on the buddy cop movie for the masses – as long as it’s better than the excruciatingly castrating shenanigans of MISS CONGENIALITY 2 (loved the first one on the other hand), I’m in! – thanks George:)
