Season One of The Killing ended up with almost universal frustration. Viewers who had invested many hours into watching the series felt like the rug had been pulled out from under them in the concluding episode. Now, Season Two is about to begin and the producers of The Killing claim they’ve learned their lesson and that they won’t pull a switcher-roo at the end of this season. We’ll see. I still admire Detective Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) in her role of the lead investigator. Her druggie partner, Detective Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) seems to be playing a duplicitous game. Although I got over my frustration with Season One, if I feel Season Two is wasting my time, I’ll bail out. Tonight’s 2-hour episode starts at 8 P.M. EDT on AMC followed by MAD MEN. A jammed Sunday night…
I continue to suggest, to anyone who likes the US remake or the original of THE KILLING, that they should check out the excellent BORGEN from the same writer/producers as the original…playing in this country on the small leftist cable channel Link TV, and they make it (alas not continously, but alongside their repeats for a two-window) online. The second season of BORGEN is on its way…amusingly, Link had the wit to scoop this one up ahead of anyone in Britain, so for once the US viewers were ahead of the British in gaining access to a mutual import…
Hmm. Link has uncleverly removed their online schedules, and doesn’t have a note up at the moment for when BORGEN (“Castle”…the nickname for the Danish Parliament building). Ah, well, assuming Link hasn’t defaulted, the second season should be coming along soonly…

Thanks, Todd! I’ll be looking for BORGEN.
I am not sure I can put up with the gloom again. Two hour episodes usually point out the problems in a show rather than the strengths IMHO.
Allegedly, this 2-hour premier is supposed to reveal some important plot details, Patti. I’m going to give it a shot. But, like you, I could do without all the rainy scenes.
I read an article in the NY Times yesterday (The Killing) suggesting that – basically – the original Danish series was covered half in series one and half in the upcoming series two, explaining why there was no real solution last year.
You can get BORGEN on DVD from amazon.co.uk if your DVD player will play international discs. (If not there is a way to configure it so it will. We did and we get a lot of stuff from Britain.)
Thanks for the info, Jeff! I’ll look for BORGEN on AMAZON.CO.UK. I occasionally order from them.
I’ve managed to stay away from this type of show over the years. Could be a mistake I suppose, but I have been disappointed too many times by a show that was supposed to have a finite limit, then gets extended, to it’s detriment, because of popularity and a network’s desire to rake in more money.
Plenty of THE KILLING SEASON audience expressed their outrage at the concluding episode of SEASON ONE, Randy. After investing 20 hours in THE KILLING, they thought the pay-off wasn’t worth the investment.
I also stay away because I just don’t like the dark, grimy brutal and often contrived stuff of this nature. Besides, it’s on AMC which was once a wonderful commercial-free station, but now runs a head-splitting overload of commercials, and I’m so sick of commercials, after watching two NCAA basketball games yesterday, I don’t think I could take it. And before you say it, George and others, I don’t have a DVR.
A DVR is the only way to keep your sanity, Rick. I, too, am sick to death of the blizzard of commercials. One of the smart ways to get control of your TV is to DVR just about everything. I’ll watch live events like NCAA, but I’ll have a book in my lap for the commercial breaks.
I usually just mute them and look out the window or do a quick chore, like filling the bird feeder or hanging up my jacket, or whatever. I also usually have a magazine or book, too, but with a book it’s hard to keep track of what’s happening.
That works too, Rick.
There’s no way to watch a show like THE KILLING without a DVR, IMHO. There are just too many commercials on AMC. We zipped through the two hours in what seemed little more than an hour last night.
I had the same sensation, Jeff. I’ll stick with THE KILLING for a few more episodes before I decide whether to bail on it or not.
