Our local PBS station runs plenty of mystery series in the evening and well into the night. Diane and I sample them and either accept or reject them. We had never heard of The Madame Blanc Mysteries but after watching a couple episodes, we were hooked.
The Madame Blanc Mysteries is definitely a “cozy” series. Everyone seems to be a senior citizen. And the fictional village of Sainte Victoire seems to have a murder every week! I like Sally Lindsay who plays Jean White (aka, BLANC) whose vast knowledge of antiques, history, literature, and the world in general come into play as she solves all sorts of crimes–but mostly murders.
If you’re in the mood for a low-key mystery series with beautiful views of France, give The Madame Blanc Mysteries a try. GRADE: B
The local trio of PBS entities (including the NJ PBS that is trying to rise from the ashes that Chris Christie left behind in an early Drumpfian tantrum) haven’t picked up on this one yet.

Christie was particularly gleeful to zero-out funding for what was then known as the New Jersey Network for being one of the best watchdog news organizations in the state, that had done good work uncovering state (and some more local and more national) malfeasance over the previous couple of decades. One could only imagine Christie chortling, while “handling” the budget “crisis” his admin had no little part in creating. (Why NJers had elected him and a majority of GOP in the leg is a good question, but it hasn’t happened since.) (Before we moved here.)
Indeed, I suspect one or several of the local PBS affiliates probably have this as a Passport membership-streaming option.
Not altogether unlike what Drumpf and his puppet Kegsbreath are doing to STARS AND STRIPES now.

Christie made fun of him, calling him Donald Duck in a debate for refusing to take responsibility for his bad behavior and such…kettle, pot, but at least Christie wasn’t wrong for a fleeting moment.
Though, the treatment of the aircraft carrier crew is even worse. Surprise!
Todd, I suspect it will be hard for the Trump Administration to recruit young people for their Military after the debacles on the Abraham Lincoln and with STARS & STRIPES.
We’ve watched all the series they’ve shown so far. I like the way her knowledge of antiques plays into solving the crimes. Robin Askwith (Jeremy) had a measure of fame starring in the CONFESSIONS soft core movies in the ‘seventies. And Tony Robinson – Baldrick from BLACK ADDER – plays Dom’s Uncle Patrick.
You’re right – Sainte Victoire has as many murders per capita as Cabot Cove!
Jeff, Diane and I like the intersection of the murder with antique knowledge, too. A lot of the actors in these British mystery series look familiar…
I haven’t caught it but it sounds cute. Unfortunately Channel 5 was bought up by the Ellison’s several years ago and is actually a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures.
Byron, the first three seasons of THE MADAME BLANC MYSTERIES are available on DVD. Our local Library has them and your Library might have them, too.
