George, I can’t say I’d any favourite movies of the decade, but here are a few more that I liked — Zero Dark Thirty, Black Panther, Joker, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The wife and Darkest Hour. I liked Frozen a lot, though not the sequel so much.

Prashant, as you know I’m a fan of Super Hero movies. So the past decade provided entertainment in the form of THE AVENGERS, the Spiderman movies, and DOCTOR STRANGE. I also enjoyed MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, LADY BIRD, and the Mission Impossible movies.

Most Influential and Favorite are two different things, right? For instance, FROZEN was hugely influential, but it was totally not for me. AMERICAN SNIPER? Really? The Hunger Games movies have long faded in the memory, frankly, while things like ROMA and MOONLIGHT linger.

Jeff, I agree with you. THE HUNGER GAMES movies made mucho dinero but lack staying power. I did like A QUIET PLACE and I’m excited about A QUIET PLACE 2 which opens in March 2020.

        I liked that too.

We watched the Linda Ronstadt documentary last night and it was as well done as the end was ultimately depressing. No mention of George Lucas, I noticed.

Jeff, I wondered about that, too. Yes, I came away from LINDA RONSTADT: THE SOUND OF MY VOICE feeling sad about a great talent silenced by Parkinson’s.

Jeff, like you I’m confused about when decades start and end. The NY TIMES seems to think the decade starts with zero–not 1–and they did the same thing back in 2000 when I thought the new decade would begin in 2001.

Beth, I’m guessing the NY TIMES is using the term “influential” as a motivator to make more movies like the money-making influential movie. Imitation is the sincerest form of greed.

Rick, THE POST was a 2017 movie. But it made very little money (only $179 million worldwide). Here’s the top Box Office movies of 2017:
Beauty and the Beast” — $1.26 billion.
“The Fate of the Furious” — $1.23 billion. …
      “Despicable Me 3” — $1.03 billion. …
      “Spider-Man: Homecoming” — $880.1 million. …
“Guardians of the Galaxy — $860.2 million.
      “Thor: Ragnarok” — $841.8 million. …
      “Wonder Woman” $821.8 million. …

I have to confess (pun intended …) that I haven’t been to a cinema in the last eight or ten years.
Especially the big Hollywood productions are too kitschy for me (and my wife too), a lot of show, noise and overacting.
We watch mainly old movies on our tv and newer ones which my wife’s son has copied to a data stick. 🙂
Anyway I prefer humorous staff – Hungarians are famous for this – even in old times several of them worked in Hollywood who as Jews had to flee Europe.
The most famous surely is Manó Kamin who in Hungary already changed his name to Mihály Kertesz , to you probably known as Michael Curtiz of Casablanca fame.

Wolf, my wife and I used to go to the movies every week. But my wife’s favorite type of movie, the Romantic Comedy, seems to be a dying art form. I like action movies and dramas, but many of those have migrated to streaming services like NETFLIX and HULU, and AMAZON PRIME VIDEO so we don’t have to leave our home to watch them.
