THE REAVERS OF SKAITH By Leigh Brackett

Planet Stories has just published the third and final Erie John Stark adventure, The Reavers of Skaith. Last year, Planet Stories brought out the first two books in the series, The Ginger Star and The Hounds of Skaith. This edition includes a new Introduction by George Lucas who talks about working with Leigh Brackett on the script for The Empire Strikes Back. Leigh Brackett was a terrific writer and it’s wonderful to have her work available again.

My favorite of hers is “Nemesis from Terra.” I wish she’d kept Stark on Mars, but even so, the Skaith books are good reading, and I liked the original Steranko covers.

Don’t know of anyone who writes quite like L.B. these days.

You’re right, nobody writes like Leigh Brackett anymore. Nemesis from Terra is terrific. I had the ACE Double edition. Hopefully, Planet Stories will return more of Leigh Brackett’s to print.

I really like the Skaith books, telepathic hounds and all. This is good old fantasy~adventure, fun stuff.

NOTE: The 1976 SF Book Club omnibus, The Book Of Skaith, has all three books and is available for much less than the three Planet Story volumes, even with shipping. It’s available through ABE or from Amazon vendors.

George, I’ll have to keep an eye out for Nemesis from Terra.

I have the SF book club edition, but these new Planet Story editions are affordable and more portable. Plus, I try to support these reprint efforts with my dollars.

Inspired by this site, I dug out my Ace F-series copy of LB’s SWORD OF RHIANNON. Opened it up and took a deep whiff. Gawd, it smelled good! Does anyone else take delight in the odor of old 60’s paperbacks? Or am I just a book-luvin’ pervert who really needs to get a girlfriend…
