Heist novels thrill me. I love caper novels like the Parker series by “Richard Stark” (aka, Donald Westlake). And, I’ve been a fan of Genevieve Cogman’s THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY series, too. Now, in the latest volume, Librarian Irene Winter, her dragon boy-friend Kai, and a gang of misfits plan to steal a rare painting from a museum.
The large painting Winter and her crew need to steal is located in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, Austria. But a number of problems arise.
As always, there’s tension between the Fae and the Dragons. Each member of the heist team hides secrets. The Secret Chapter may be my favorite novel in this series! GRADE: A
I forget – have you read the Great Library series by Rachel Caine?
Jeff, I have THE GREAT LIBRARY series by Rachel Caine in one of the piles of books around here. You would think that with the Stay-at-Home order, the stacks of books would go down. But, no! More books just keep arriving!
Are these real dragons?
Patti, yes, they are real dragons who can assume human shape. The Librarian and one of the dragons are engaged in a love affair. This is silly stuff, but entertaining during a pandemic.
George, why can’t you just read (or re-read) MOBY-DICK or MIDDLEMARCH or WAR AND PEACE like everyone else?
Michael, funny you should suggest re-reading MOBY-DICK. I found an audiobook version of MOBY-DICK and I’m tempted to listen to it.
they sound interesting Is it a YA series?
Maggie, you would enjoy THE INVISIBLE LIBARY series. They aren’t being marketed as YA books, but I think that’s the level they’re written for.
Not as much a fantasy I would recommend Mr. Penumbra’s 24 Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan.
Steve, I have MR. PENUMBRA’S 24 HOUR BOOKSTORE around here somewhere. Thanks for the recommendation! I have to look for it tomorrow.
I’ve got The Invisible Library but haven’t read it yet (the story of my life).
I’ll move it further up the TBR pile(s).
Beth, for some reason the first book in THE INVISIBLE LIBRARY series is narrated in the First Person. The other volumes are narrated in the Third Person. Just thought you’d like to know.
