I’m a big fan of Kate Beckinsale, but she made a Bad Decision to get involved with The Widow. Kate Beckinsale plays a widow whose husband supposedly died in a plane crash in the Congo. But, Kate thinks she sees her husband in a scene of news footage on TV. She decides to fly to Africa to look for him. Then she goes into the jungle!
On top of the unlikely events in this series, the storyline jumps around a lot. I was able to follow the plot, but it seemed fractured and unnecessarily confusing at times. My advice is to forget about watching this mess and watch Kate Beckinsale in a vastly better AMAZON PRIME Video production, Love and Friendship (you can read my review here), based on Jane Austen’s Lady Susan. The Widow is eight episodes of video filler. GRADE: D
Thanks for the warning, not that I planned to see it anyway!
Bob, THE WIDOW was a big disappointment.
Thanks for saving me this one.
Patti, the little kids carrying machine guns should have warned me off, too.
Kate has been making a number of Bad Decisions lately, i.e. her reported romance with the unappealing Pete Davidson (who is, also, 25 to her 45).
Jeff, after the success of LOVE & FRIENDSHIP, I thought Kate Beckinsale would produce two or three more Victorian dramas. But, no. Kate did an unwatchable horror movie, UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS, and that movie based on a Paul Simon song, THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN New York. I’m with you on Pete Davidson.
George – Saw her first in Kenneth Branagh’s excellent “Much Ado About Nothing.” For me, her best film was “Nothing But The Truth” (2008) about a reporter who goes to jail for protecting a source. There is a moment when a jail guard barks at her and her frightened flinch is 100 percent genuine.
Elgin, I’ll track down a copy of NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. I consider Kate Beckinsale similar to Jennifer Anniston: extremely talented actress who makes Bad Decisions.
Liked her in The Aviator as Ava Gardner but not in much else.
Steve, I liked Kate Beckinsale as Ava Gardner, too. That role was one of her Good Decisions.
