George, after all that hard work with Big Orange you’ve earned a Double Chocolate Premium Hot Cocoa! (or two …) 🙂
Here in Europe we ofteb forget that the Gulf Stream gives us less extreme temperatures in summer and in winter.

Last year, after 4 extended outages in 6 months, I bought a generator, knowing that once I had one, the fates would see to it that power didn’t for out again for at least a year. So far it’s worked.

Dan, same here. We bought our natural gas generator after the 2006 October Storm when the power here was out for three days. Since then, we’ve had minor outages (a few hours). But, we’re ready for the Big One if it hits.

Jackie’s first question was, does George wear a jacket when he plows? Now we know!

We have the wind chill (well, -11), but thankfully it was well above freezing when the storm arrived, so it was all rain here and the streets are clear and dry.

We’re not leaving the house today either.

Jeff, I have several winter jackets, but I reserve my “snowplowing jacket” for days like this. The bitter cold goes right through you!

Patti, Diane listens to NPR in the morning. The local news report this morning listed power outages in Orchard Park (a suburb south of Buffalo) and plenty of traffic accidents. Things could have been worse, but the schools are closed for Martin Luther King Day.

You can spend you inside time writing letters to Alberto Riveron, head of NFL Officiating, about the terrible job the crews of both of yesterday’s games did, especially the New Orleans vs. Los Angeles game. Besides the obvious pass interference no-call in the NFC game, there were several helmet-to-helmet no calls in both games. Really awful.

The outcomes were as I expected, but the method was terrible, that the officials should take the game into their own hands.

As for the weather, we have thick fog, which will turn into rain later in the morning. It’s in the low 40s.

Rick, the NFL needs to clean up its officiating. Both games featured calls and “non-calls” that affected the outcomes. We’re going down to zero tonight.

Just heard from a friend in Connectict that their whole city is without electricity – so no internet (or very limited) and no heating. She wrote that the temp in her house is 43 Fahrenheit i e 6 degrees Celsius – that’s the temp in our fridge!
    They’re working on it …
    Wish everybody the very best!

    PS:
Here in Hungary we also lose electricity or gas sometimes, though not as often as in the past. That’s why we have a fireplace, a metal construction with a glass door, in our living room. And lots of firewood of course!
Of course even when the gas heating works this fireplace gives off a nice warmth … 🙂

    PPS:
For some people here in the village heating with firewood is the only option – electric heating is much too expensive and they cannot afford the connection to the gas pipes.

We didn’t have a foot of snow, George, although it’s snowing now. Maybe 6 inches but it’s the most we’ve had all winter.
Since the “big” snowfall was over Friday night, nobody was exactly rushing to clean it up. This time it worked in our favor. Our neighbor got her snowblower out. Since we live on a cul de sac, she wanted to make it worthwhile and cleared driveways and walks for three neighbors . What a gal!
I didn’t have to work anywhere this weekend so I was a slug – got in TWO naps on Saturday!

Beth, you’re Livin’ la Vida Loca! Our winter has been mild up until now. More cold air and snow is in the forecast for next week!

Scott, I snowblowed my driveway and the neighbor’s sidewalks today. We were hit with three inches of new snow on top of the foot of snow that fell yesterday. The windchills are in the -20 degree range so we’re staying inside!
