TOM BRADY MOVES ON

Tom Brady, with his six Super Bowl rings, is moving to Tampa, Florida. Buffalo Bills fans are celebrating Brady’s departure from the AFC East. For the past 20 years, Brady tormented the Bills by winning 32 games against them (the Bills only beat Brady and the Patriots 3 times in 20 years). Against the Bills, Brady completed 738 of 1154 passes (64%) for 8669 yards and 70 touchdowns with a QB rating of 98%.

Will the New England Patriots be as good a team without Tom Brady? Doubtful. Even though Brady is at the end of his career, obviously Tampa thinks Brady can still win games in the National Football League. What do you think of Tom Brady? What is your favorite NFL team doing during this Free Agency period? Are you going into Sports Withdrawal because of the coronavirus?

No withdrawal here as the only sport I watch is baseball. And spring will be a bummer without baseball. Although the Detroit Tigers are so bad I would probably bail on them fairly early anyways.
I’m getting more withdrawal problems from lack of human contact. Except for phone calls I have had no interaction with anyone for 3 days in a row. You can only read and watch tv so much. Too chilly to go for a walk. And I eat too much when I get bored.

Steve, Patrick gave us a FACEBOOK Portal for Christmas. It’s basically a video-telephone (just like in the SF magazines!). We Portal with Patrick and Katie on a regular basis. Diane and I call our friends, too. If you’d like me to give you a call, just email your phone number to kelleyg@ecc.edu and we can talk books (or anything else).

I like football but I don’t care about Brady! I used to like the Pats but once Bill Belli-cheat became their head coach I bailed!

Bob, I’m hoping Brady’s departure is the beginning of the end for the New England Patriot’s domination of the AFC East.

It’s odd that something that was dominating the sports news cycle just a couple of weeks ago now elicits a shrug. Brady should have probably retired rather than do a Joe Montana or Brett Favre and spend his last season(s) desperately trying to reclaim his glory days. I may eat my words if Brady takes the Bucs to the Super Bowl.

I miss my two favorite sports shows: Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption, but with no sports to discuss, ESPN seems to have gone all-in for loud-mouthed know-nothing Stephen A. Smith whose entire schtick seems tailor-made for the mute button.

Deb, I heard Sean Payton has the coronavirus! Yes, Stephen A. Smith is a tedious blow-hard. But what’s worse is Trump’s daily news conference where he spouts Fake News and empty promises about the pandemic.

I read somewhere that a recent poll showed that 55% of Americans APPROVED of Trump’s handling of the virus. That sound you hear is the other 45% yelling, “What the f*ck?” in unison whilst simultaneously face-palming.

Deb, sadly, the 55% who think Trump is doing a great job are probably at highest risk for contracting the coronavirus because they think everything is okay.

If I were you, Deb, I’be be bemoaning the loss of Teddy Bridgewater, who was the best back-up in the league. Haven’t heard an update on the LSU thing with your kids and hub.

Everyone is home—and the girls are doing their work online. They have to go back to Baton Rouge next week to finish clearing out their apartment. The girls and I are trying to walk a mile around the subdivision everyday just to get some fresh air. We are making our way through our Poirot, Miss Marple, Sherlock Holmes, Midsomer Murders, Inspector Lewis, and Inspector Gently collections. I’m bummed Amazon Prime is no longer showing the old Perry Mason shows—John and I had watched all of the episodes in the first season and were looking forward to season two when Amazon Prime dropped it.

I lost my voice yesterday from talking on the phone. I have never been much for it. Not even as a teenager. And then after being a service rep for Bell of PA and NJ Bell, I actively dreaded it. Phil always answered the phone because he enjoyed talking. I am a face-to-face person. Now my therapist want me to use Zoom to talk to her. It may be an opportune time to quit. I don’t think she is the right therapist for our new reality.

Patti, Diane loves to talk on the phone. Diane and her sister Carol have marathon 2-hour “chats.” Like you, I prefer face-to-face interactions. But the FACEBOOK Portal is a pretty cool device that is the next-best-thing to talking in person.

Rick, the FACEBOOK Portal is similar to Skype, FaceTime, ZOOM, and other video conferencing programs. We use a split-screen to have Patrick and Katie on at the same time.

Put me down as another who hates to talk on the phone, yet Jackie always made me answer the phone because she was afraid it was her mother (as it often was). Yet, when she does talk she can go on for hours. That’s why cellphones are perfect for me, as I get very few calls.

As for football, no withdrawal here. I agree Brady is yet another who can’t let go. It’s time to retire. I will miss baseball. This could be 1994 again, when what looked to be a primo season for the NY Yankees got lost – the season-ending striker then, now the virus.

      3. Jeff Meyerson

I also agree about Stephen A. (LOOK AT ME) Smith, the perfect blowhard for the Trump Era.

  5. Michael Padgett

The only two sports I care about are baseball and football (college more than pro), so real withdrawal won’t start until next month when baseball should be starting. Football is too far away to be concerned about at this point. Right now it’s all about who’ll get traded, who’ll get cut, and Brady, Brady, Brady. I don’t care that he’s going to Tampa, which will at least make them shed the loathsome Jameis Winston. Even during periods when there’s something interesting going on in sports I’ve never been able to tolerate ESPN. That Stephen Smith guy you and Deb hate is almost as disgusting as Trump. Seems like every time I turn on the tv now, there’s Trump spewing his crap. I keep waiting for one of the decent people involved in the briefings, like the wonderful Dr. Fauci, to throw up and flee.

I miss March Madness! The NCAA Men’s tournament is always a highlight of the sports year and it’s gone. The next thing would be the NFL Draft, which is going to be held, but who knows in what format.

I’ve long liked the Patriots, and think Brady is one of the greatest, if not The greatest QB of all time. I wish he’d played out his years in NE, but like so many others he followed the money. I wish him well at Tampa.

As for the Seahawks, I really, really hope they hang on to Clowney, who is a free agent. They aren’t big on free agent trading, but he’s necessary!

Rick, the NFL has announced they plan to hold the Draft in Las Vegas April 23-25 with no fans allowed. The coronavirus has a lot to answer for!

I stopped really caring about football when the chargers left. I see phillip rivers going to indy didn’t get a lot of notice. We thought he was gonna be in Fl for sure, as he moved his family there.

I still like the saints and packers, but don’t really pay any attention and rarely watch games

Maggie, like you I’m fond of the Saints and the Packers. As the Buffalo Bills improved over the past three seasons, I’ve spent more time watching their games. But, with the pandemic, who knows if the NFL will open its 2020 season on time.
