TRAINWRECK

Amy Shumer is the Real Deal. Yes, she’s been getting a lot of hype with the run-up to the release of her first movie, Trainwreck but Amy has the talent. This movie is a conventional romantic comedy. Don’t expect any surprises. But Amy Shumer turns straw into comedic gold. Amy plays Amy, a New York City woman who drinks too much and smokes too much weed and sleeps around. She works for a men’s magazine called “S’Nuff” as a writer of articles like “You’re Not Gay, She’s Just Boring.” I really liked Colin Quinn as Amy’s dysfunctional father. Tilda Swinton nails it as Amy’s boss. And Bill Hader shows he’s got the Right Stuff to be Amy’s boyfriend despite plenty of trials and tribulations. If you’re looking for a funny summer movie that is slightly raunchy, Trainwreck fits the bill. GRADE: B+

I might see this one, although I’m loath to enter a theater anymore, especially since popcorn is now taboo.

At least we won’t have to worry about noisy kids and texting babysitters with this one. She’s been getting as much air time as a Kardashian lately but at least she has some talent to back it up, unlike that family of zeros.

Jeff, you’re right. TRAINWRECK is rated “R” so you don’t have to worry about little kids. The AMC Theater where Diane and I saw TRAINWRECK was packed.

Also packed last night was the theater where MR. HOLMES was playing. A movie for adults has an audience.

Patti, MR. HOLMES is on our list, too. The crowd for TRAINWRECK were twenty-somethings. Diane and I were the oldest people in the theater.

That’s another reason I like going to the movies in Florida; we’re usually the youngest people in the theater!

Rick, we have popcorn but it’s pricey. Although TRAINWRECK is a fairly predictable romantic comedy, it does have its raunchy moments.

Prashant, the rumors over here say Tilda Swinton is being considered to play the Ancient One in the upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE movie. Talk about an off-beat casting move!
