      Yes please!

We’re also big fans of all kind of nuts. I remember that when we were children there only were hazelnuts, walnuts (both grow in Central Europe and we have trees/bushes both around our houses in Germany and Hungary) and sometimes almonds – which were very expensive.
Then came peanuts which were a cheaper substitute …
And much later cashews and pecans I saw the first time in my thirties on a visit to the USA!
And even later macadamia – I bought my wife a box and that special “press” that you use to open them …

My wife also likes to cook with nuts – not only cakes but just roast them in a pan and add them to some dishes, salads eg …
She also uses sunflower and pumpkin seeds for that – I’m already getting hungry, it’s time for lunch here …

George, in the EU this package would have to carry a label:
May contain traces of nuts …
        Ain’t that funny?

        PS and rather OT:
I’m so happy that I don’t have diabetes or any allergies, problem with foodstuffs.
        The only problem is:
I get fatter, when I eat too much – and my wife is such a wonderful cook …
        PPS:
She’s a wonderful woman in many ways – I’m so happy to have met her. And to think that we were both over 60 already when we met, or rather when we were introduced to each other by a common friend:
Look – here’s the perfect partner for you!

Wolf, I’m hoping a cure for diabetes shows up in the next few years. Meanwhile, I follow a low-carb diet filled with nuts and veggies. There’s an old saying, “A wonderful wife leads to a Good Life.”

We just stick to the plain walnuts and almonds we get at Sahadi’s in Downtown Brooklyn, a store you would love. Every nut you could want, all kinds of chocolate and dried fruits, etc.

Of course, I do have an occasional piece of Godiva chocolate with almonds.

George, if you ever come to Germany, there’s a factory outlet (and a chocolate museum …) by German chocolate company Ritter Sport near Tübingen where we live, they sell probably more than a hundred varieties of chocolate there at a good price.
Their chocolate is not “exclusive”, just very good and we buy the 2 kilogramm packages with assorted varieties (large and small packages) for 12 € – my wife likes the chocolate and we regularly give some to people in Hungary as a tip.

On our journeys to the USA we also took a lot of chocolate to give away, like to the people in a visitor centre when we got some advice or at a hotel reception when someone helped us …
That little gesture made us very popular!

Wolf, I eat a little bit of chocolate every day. My doctor says it’s good for my heart. I always found giving women chocolate had a beneficial effect, too!

I’m glad it doesn’t have walnuts. they are so bitter to me. I’m right now enjoying a chocolate tea (caffeinated) by good earth called cocoa tango. It has a bit of chili and I’ve been able to get the chocolate taste. You might try that. (I’m still looking for a tea with a caramel taste that is strong enough) I’ll get some when they have the free sams membership, as I so rarely go there it isn’t worth the cost of the membership.

Wolf Right now i have a 100 gram package of ritter sport strawberry mint chocolate. I have a square every day or so. sadly, it’s not dark choc (they have a nice dark choc mint I sometimes get on sale) I taste the strawberry in this one, but not the mint. You have good instincts on how to reward people!!!

Sorry, Patti – it’s in Waldenbuch, a small town between Stuttgart and Tübingen in Southern Germany, probably too far away for you.
But many supermarkets have regular offers for this (and others …) brand of chocolate at good prices.
And Ritter has a lot of specialties – my wife’s favourite besides the classic “Rum, raisins, hazelnut” is the dark chocolate with 70% cocoa!
Ritter chocolate actually is immediately recognizable because their packages are square – I think they have a monopoly on this. And there also is a special trick to open the package: You bend it in the middle and the plastic foil will break open …
      PS:
I was really astonished when I saw it sold at JFK – for 3$ a package, while we pay in Germany around 70€cent – less than 1$.

I remember that chocolate store across from the restaurant in Raleigh that George mentioned. Good stuff.
