Van Cliburn International Piano Competition 2017

The Van Cliburn International Piano Competition began in 1962 and features the world’s best young pianists ages 18 to 30. While the competition is available online at http://www.cliburn.org/ you may find the web site sluggish because of the heavy volume of watchers. FATHOM EVENTS is bringing the Finals to selected theaters so I’ve decided to go see these fine pianists today at our local Regal Theater. If you have any interest in classic music, you’ll enjoy these performances. The Competition starts in the afternoon so there’s still time to buy a ticket!

That is pretty cool, actually, though I does remind me of the silly movie with Richard Dreyfuss and Amy Irving. Whenever we see the ads for performances of opera Live From Lincoln Center, we always think it’s a good thing, especially for fans who have no way to get to a live performance themselves.

The only time we ever did this was for a Jimmy Buffett solo performance live from the Saenger Theater in New Orleans. We went to the theater (14th Street Regal) in Manhattan. And because we were the first ones there, we got a free first edition of Buffett’s novel A SALTY PIECE OF LAND (not that I’ve ever read it).

Jeff, Diane and I went to a FATHOM EVENT performance of a live evening of WAIT, WAIT, DON’T TELL ME. We also saw another FATHOM EVENT of PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION a few years ago. Tons of fun!

I’m going today to the La Jolla Playhouse to see Escape to Margaritaville based on Jimmy Buffet’s music. He’s been here working on it and surfing. It’s Broadway bound. It sold out and they extended it twice.

There have been a bunch of fathom events that sound good, but I’ve never gone, mostly as they don’t have matinees

Jeff, I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing the best young pianists–18 to 30-years-old–in the world! Should be great!
