At 3:18 P.M. the temperature dropped about 10 degrees and it was like someone hit the dimmer switch. Within a few seconds the sunlight was gone, the streetlights came on, and it was eerie feeling being plunged into midnight. In the distance there was a 360 degree “sunset” surrounding the eclipse darkness.
The darkness lasted three minutes and then things started to lighten up. Clouds finally cleared and Diane and I were able to view the eclipse with our Solar Eclipse glasses on. It will be many years before another Solar Eclipse shows up in Western NY so we’re happy we experienced this rare event!
You have been bombarded with eclipse rays, which cause mutations! Oh, the humanity!
Bob, I just hope the eclipse rays mutate me into a smarter person!
Thanks for sharing that with us!
Kay has more family than a Russian Novel, including a niece who lives on a farm in the 100% zone, about a half hour away from us, which made for a delightful once-in-a-lifetime afternoon.
Dan, when the darkness fell during the eclipse, all the dogs in our neighborhood howled!
Stylish glasses! Glad you guys got a good view.
Jeff, the clouds blocked the first part of the eclipse, but then they cleared up and we had a great view!
It was cloudy, so we missed direct view of totality, but saw a moment of onset (through eclipse glasses) thanks to a break in the overcast. Darkness at totality was impressive. My wife was happy.
Fred, the darkness of Totality is the thing I will always remember. Midnight at 3:18 in the afternoon is a rare event! And the 360 degree “sunrise” was dazzling, too!
No glaases so no viewing. It didn’t get as dark as I expected here and I mostly watched it on my laptop.
Patti, there was massive media coverage here mostly at Niagara Falls. Plenty of people showed up from all over the world!
Having seen the Niagara Falls once (frozen!) I’d be happy to see the eclipse there – but maybe it would make the water disappear?
Wolf, the water wouldn’t disappear, but as the Totality progresses, many wavelengths are blocked so everything looks a little different!
Hello, George! Lovely pictures! Read much about the solar eclipse. The last we had one was in 2019 which, I believe, lasted three minutes and 39 seconds. It’s nothing short of a grand event here.
Prashant, welcome back! We’ve missed you! Yes, the Solar Eclipse was a Big Deal here. Thousands of visitors came to Western NY to witness the event.
What an experience. You were lucky to see it. I did not realize it would affect the temperature so much.
Tracy, the Solar Eclipse was amazing! The temperature drop and the darkness were intense!
