2012 WILD CARD WEEKEND, PART ONE

Wild Card Weekend kicks off at 4:30 P.M. today on NBC. Some people think the Houston Texans have gone into a swoon at the end of the season, but I think they’re playing possum. I’m going with Texans over the Bengals. In the 8 P.M. game also on NBC, the Vikings face the Packers. This rivalry has produced some legendary games and this could be another one. Can Adrian Peterson’s running overcome Aaron Rodger’s passing? I’m going with the home team: the Packers. Who do you think will win these games?

On paper, the Texans are the superior team, Bill. But the Bengals can rise up and surprise better teams. They did it this whole season.

Winning in the dome at home when you need to win to make the playoffs is not the same as playing in Lambeau in the cold. I’m going with the Packers too. I must admit I don’t follow the AFC enough to do other than guess on the other game so I’ll pass.

I’m calling it Bengals and Packers today, Indy and Seattle tomorrow. Those calls are all emotional ones, not the hard analysis I’d do if I was betting some dough. For me, the least interesting game is the Bengals-Oilers…um, Texans.

My thinking is, if they couldn’t secure the first or second seed and the week off they are not at their best. On the other hand, they probably feel they have something to prove. The Bengals are one of those funny teams that can get on a roll and look great or just fall flat but I think they have a decent chance today.

The Seahawks are the hottest team in the league right now.

You’re right about the Seahawks, Jeff. No NFL team want to play them right now. The Bengals now own a 22-year winless Playoff drought.

I knew that, George, but this is the other Texas team the way the Oilers were…

Actually, I expect Houston to win this one and they look better right now (3-0 score). Pretty much, I figure the home team in the wild card round has a big advantage. Hope that’s not true in the Seattle-Washington D.C. game tomorrow.

Just heard that Ponder is ineligible for Vikings-Packers.

Other than that one terrible pass Houston looks a lot better.

Bob, I know a guy who just bets on NFL games (legally, he lives in Vegas) and makes about $250,000 a year (from September to February). After doing this a couple of years, he quit his “day job.”
