FORGOTTEN BOOKS #183: A Confederation of Valor By Tanya Huff

Bill Crider sat on a panel with Tanya Huff earlier this summer (Armadillocon, I think). As a “Get Well” present, Bill sent me this autographed copy of A Confederation of Valor, an omnibus edition of Tanya Huff’s excellent SF military novels, Valor’s Choice and The Better Part of Valor. If you haven’t read these action-packed novels, you’re missing out on some great adventures. Staff Sergent Kerr is a believable character. She doesn’t glamorize warfare, but she’s prepared to make the hard decisions to win an military engagement. Tanya Huff hasn’t received the attention she deserves for these entertaining, yet thought-provoking novels. Thanks again for this wonderful gift, Bill!

And I like the cover on this edition of A CONFEDERATION OF VALOR, Bill. The cover on the old edition had more action, but there’s something about this new cover that really captures the eye.

So glad to hear that you enjoyed this. I picked up this exact book on a whim a few years ago. I saw the image of the redhead on the spine in the bookstore and kept going back to it, wondering who this person was. I decided to take a chance and was so glad I did. I fairly tore through both books and recommended it both on my blog and to friends. I’ve since read the third book, liked it as well, and have all of them on my shelves. In fact I was just downstairs last night perusing the shelves and told myself that once it gets really cold out I’ll be checking out the fourth book. (I’ve read all of these in the late fall, early winter and so that time of year feels like Tanya Huff time).
