Good list. The Padgett was excellent. I have the Chast book on hold. Of course, Art’s McGinnis book was a classic. I’ll have to check the Lodge. I haven’t read him in years.
I loved the Chast book–anyone who has (or had) aging parents can relate; and I love how she sprinkles real photographs of herself and her parents throughout the book so you can see she always was a bit of a square peg in her family.
Prashant, I really enjoyed the essays in THIS IS THE STORY OF A HAPPY MARRIAGE and LIVES IN WRITING. Although very different books, both Patchett and Lodge write engaging essays.
Nice list, George. I read the Patchett and Chast (thought the latter pretty depressing). I just (finally!!) got the McGinnis book a couple of days ago, haven’t even had a chance to look at it yet.
Nice list. Reminds me about the Lodge book too.
Patti, I have another Lodge book at the top of my Read Real Soon stack. I’ve enjoyed Lodge’s fiction and non-fiction.

Jeff, you’ll love the Chast book! It’s the best book I read in 2014. And so true!

Deb, good point on Chast being the “square peg”. Her book is funny and tragic at the same time.
George, I’m curious about “This is the Story of a Happy Marriage” and “Lives in Writing.” Will look them up next year.

Rick, I advise you to drop everything and look at THE ART OF ROBERT E. MCGINNIS! It’s terrific!
