2017 NFL PLAYOFF DIVISIONAL ROUND: Seattle Seahawks at Atlanta Falcons (4:35 P.M. FOX) and Houston Texans at New England Patriots (8:15 P.M. CBS)

After last weekend’s snoozers, this weekend’s games look a lot more exciting. The Seattle Seahawks are 5-point underdogs to the high-flying Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons put up a lot of points so Seattle will have to play really good defense or try to keep up with Atlanta in the scoring department (good luck with that!). In the night game, The Huston Texans are 16-point underdogs to the well-rested New England Patriots. This game has blow-out written all over it. Who do you think will win these games?

The Seahawks will pluck those Falcons clean! Unless they don’t, of course!

I hope the Texans win, but I wouldn’t bet on it!

Blowout sounds about right. Houston made the playoffs and won a game. Now it’s time to take their consolation prize and go home.

Seattle is a schizophrenic team. They can look horrible several weeks in a row and then play a great game. But I think Atlanta will win by double digits.

Houston’s only hope is its defense. If I were a betting man, though, I’d take those 15-1/2 points and the Pats because the Houston offense stinks.

I agree with you all, the Pats will win, though in my heart I want Houston to stun us all. Not sure about the falcons/seahawks.

I’m now hoping the Jaguars will relocate to SD. The spanos family stayed classless until the end, not notifying the city about their decision until it was spread across the media. I liked the chargers on facebook, and got a notification of the change to the LA Chargers. I sent a snarky reply and unliked them. A lot of fans were burning stuff yesterday.

I’m hoping a rumor is true and the jaguars will relocate here. I’m also hoping the predictions come true for the spanos family and the attendance is only good when the raiders play there.

        Funny coincidence:

Just read the rantings of GRR Martin on his blog on the same topic – it’s really strange that sports has become a toy of some millionnaire club owners …

I’ve given up watching any kind of sports – tennis, soccer, racing, Olympics, imho it’s just about the money.

Wolf, I watch games with a book in my lap. I’m reading most of the time and only look up when something exciting happens.

Naturally I’m hoping for a Seahawks win, but this is the game when the rookie inexperienced offense line falls apart enough to prevent a run game and force Wilson to run for his life. I hope there are no injuries! Matt Ryan is having a great year. If Atlanta beats Seattle they could go to the Super Bowl. They’re good enough, and peaking, to beat Dallas or Green Bay.

I’d love to see another team in San Diego, but my first choice would be for Spanish to sell the Chargers and the new owner to move them back.

Rick, the Spanos Family won’t sell their NFL team. It generates too much money. They would be hard-pressed to find an investment with the kind of return (and status) that an NFL team delivers. They’ve proven in the past that they don’t care for the fans or the community.

Billionaire owners taking their toys and leaving in a huff when the working people of a city won’t subsidize a giant monument to their money and ego! Blech! Get ready for more of the same as we head into the era of the kakistocracy.

As for the games, it would truly be a stunner for the ages to see Houston beat the Patriots. I think the 16-point odds are a little cruel though. I see the Patriots winning, but I don’t think Houston will go without a fight. I think the Pats will won by ten points–but what do I know? I’m the one who, 20 years ago, boldly proclaimed, “A movie about the sinking of the Titanic? NOBODY will want to see that!”

I have no clue about the Seahawks-Falcons, so that is definitely the game I’m going to be watching!

Deb, you’ve had a lot of exposure to the Altanta Falcons over the years playing the Saints twice a year. I’m looking for a high-scoring game!

Doesn’t look like the officials are going to let the players play, and they’re sure quick to run the game. BAH! That was no hold, the 70 yard runback should have stood. DOUBLE BAH! Then when Wilson trips, the announcers rhapsodize about the great defensive play. What?

Officials: It’s the playoffs. KEEP THE FRIGGIN’ FLAGS IN YOUR POCKETS! Let ’em play.

Oaky, I’ve calmed down. Refer to my initial comment about the weak offensive line forcing Wilson to run for his life. That’s what’s happening. Plus all the injuries. My gosh, we have rookies replacing rookies. I sure hope Seattle drafts some good offensive line players. This coming draft!

Good luck to Atlanta the rest of the way.

Rick, the Falcons could be a factor in the Super Bowl this year. The Seahawks played hard, but they didn’t have enough offense to stay with the Falcons. Better luck next year!

I watched a few minutes of the Seahawk game at various times! Every time they had something bad happen! I’ve turned it off!

and one last comment today. I am just about at my absolute limit with the commercials. They can’t go even a wait through a short delay, like a review, without cutting away for another showing of some damn commercial. Yes, I know it’s about the bottom line and all, but it’s excessive and I’m reaching the point where I may just stop watching television, even sports.

No, don’t tell me to get a DVR – I still have to go through them, and if it’s sports, I need to watch it live. No, I may just quit TV and read about it in the paper the next day.

    Excessive commercials: BAH!

Rick, I still remember my first visit to the USA more than 30 years ago and how I was stunned by the regulat breaks for commercials in every show …

Now over here in Europe it’s similar – used to be every 20 minutes, now it feels like every 10 minutes – and the “intelligence” level of the commercials is so low, are people really stupid like that?

But of course in the “anti-social media” like facebook etc it’s similar – I’m so happy that there still are channels of communicating and exchanging idea like this blog – without any commercials! 🙂

Though we shouldn’t give George any ideas for making some money on the side … 🙂

Rick, “commercial creep” has been happening for years. I usually visit the kitchen (for a snack) or head for the bathroom when there’s a block of commercials during a sporting event.
