A QUIET PLACE 2 FILMING IN WESTERN NY!

A Quiet Place 2 is a sequel to the 2018 horror hit movie. John Krasinski will star and direct the movie as he did with the original. From the press releases I’ve read, Krasinski’s wife and star, Emily Blunt, will return to participate in the sequel. Film crews have been seen in Oclott, Akron, and North Tonawanda! This project will certainly help the local Western New York economy: “NY State officals say the film is expected to hire more than 400 people in the Western New York area and invest more than $10 million into the regional economy.”

Are any movies being filmed near you?

Not anymore. We had quite a few movies filmed here until our previous Republican Governor took away the tax incentives.

Steve, New York State incentivized movie making so of course we have more movies being made here. But usually the film crews are in New York City.

Not here near the Balaton – the water is only 5 feet deep … 🙂
But many thrillers etc are filmed in Budapest – Schwarzenegger e g was there a few months ago, but I don’t remember what his function was.
Seems the Hungarian government has large tax incentives for movies.

Wolf, plenty of movies and TV shows are shot in Toronto, Canada (just 90 miles away). Canada has plenty of incentives for such activities.

is it true they were going to film the scenes of Napoleon’s Retreat in WAR AND PEACE in Buffalo, but the snow was too deep?

Georgia is supposedly second only to California in tv and film production and it’s a major part of the state’s economy. This all started with the filming of “Deliverance” in the 70s and has mushroomed over the years, helped by generous tax incentives. The situation isn’t helped, though, by the Republicans who run the state and are constantly assaulting us with their wingnuttery, such as the recent “heartbeat” anti-abortion bill and other foolishness that makes decent people want to flee the state.

Michael—where in Georgia do you live? I lived on St. Simons Island in my teens. I was just back there to get my parents’ house ready to put on the market. They lived there for 50 years. And I agree about Kemp, etc.: in a perfect world (or one where all votes were counted), Stacey Abrams would be governor today.

Anyway, on to filming here in Louisiana: they’re always filming in New Orleans..,but even up here on the Northshore. My sister-in-law and her husband have a lot of bayou frontage property and it’s been used in various movies and tv shows—most recently “Claws” which is a show about manicurists in a nail salon, iirc.

Deb, I live in Decatur, which is less than ten miles from what you’d call the heart of downtown Atlanta. I’m also very close to Emory, Agnes Scott, and the CDC, and I must admit it’s a pretty nice place to live. The tv and film people seem to work at minimizing any disturbance. A few years ago a Julia Roberts movie I’ve forgotten the name of was filmed in a house in Decatur about a half mile from me, and I never knew they were there until they were gone. Now if we could just get rid of those Republicans. Hope Dorian stays away from St. Simons.

I know! I’m following the Weather Channel anxiously. If SSI sustains a direct hit, there may not be a house for us to sell! Meanwhile, I had to watch my Alma Mater, Georgia Southern, get shellacked by my daughters’ Alma Mater, LSU, last night. I think the final was 55-3. Cue the Allman Brothers’ “Statesboro Blues.”

Cool. Nice coincidence, as we just (finally) watched the first movie last week. But (SPOILER ALERT, SKIP THIS IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THE FIRST MOVIE) how is Krasinski “starring” in the movie when it was pretty clear he was killed at the end of the first one? (END SPOILER)

We have the opposite problem. There are so many movies and television shows being filmed here (and in the rest of Brooklyn) that we are always having streets closed off and parking banned to accommodate them. For some reason, THE DEUCE has filmed around here several times, though it certainly doesn’t fit the sleazy period ambiance of that show. Of course, the BLUE BLOODS house where Tom Selleck and his father “live” is just the other side of the high school from us, and they periodically film exteriors there. Other scenes from the show have been filmed at St. Patrick’s Church on Fourth Avenue and around the neighborhood, generally showing the Verrazzano Bridge or the 69th Street Pier.

Jeff, and CITY ON A HILL was also being filmed in Brooklyn. SHOWTIME announced it was renewing CITY ON A HILL for a second season, but Diane and I decided there wasn’t enough on SHOWTIME to justify the extra expense. We have tons of programs to watch on our DVR. I assume Krasinski might show up in some flashbacks. Or THE QUIET PLACE 2 might be a prequel.

Of course, historically, Bay Ridge was where a lot of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER was filmed – the scene on the bench by the Verrazzano, threatening the gay kids near the bridge the day after the first disco scene (they filmed the scene where James Franco meets his ex-wife in the first episode there), Tony’s house, etc. There has been so much change in the neighborhood since it was shot here, however, that little is left. The restaurant where he takes Stephanie (“Tea with lemon. It’s more refined.”) was a place called Fisherman’s Corner, which later became a pasta place, and now is a car dealer. The Grand Union supermarket across the street is now Staples. They tore down the White Castle and it is now Pizzeria Uno. Last little tidbit: the scene where Tony meets Bobby to borrow his car so he can help Stephanie move to Manhattan (notable for Bobby’s white platform shoes) was filmed on Third Avenue in the high 70s, One of the two girls playing in the background was Moira Smith, who became a police officer and was killed on 9/11. There is a well known picture of her helping people get out of the first tower.

If you’ve ever seen LITTLE ODESSA with Tim Roth, the scene where he confronts his father (Maximilian Schell) outside his apartment building was filmed at 9701 Shore Road, eight blocks from us. Diane Venora’s apartment in LOOKING FOR AN ECHO was at The Joan, another apartment building on Shore Road. Armand Assante’s house was in the neighborhood too.

I guess the new series STUMPTOWN is being filmed here, but since we’re in the far SW fringe of the city, we would see no sign of it. Same with GRIM a few years back, and PORTLANDIA, of course.
