AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS [DVD}

I was seriously misled by the New York Times about Ain’t Them Bodies Saints. The article I read suggested that this film was worth watching. So I watched it. Big Mistake! Rooney Mara shoots a policeman and her boyfriend, Casey Affleck, takes the fall for her. After five unsuccessful prison escape attempts, Affleck finally succeeds in escaping and–predictably–heads to the Texas town where Rooney Mara lives. Meanwhile, Rooney has a baby and spends a lot of time babysitting. A “friendly” cop visits Rooney a lot while Rooney reads the letters Affleck sends her…every day.

Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck are on the screen together for about 5 minutes. What a waste of talent! The meandering plot and vast stretches of tedium sinks this movie. GRADE: F

    Here is WIkipedia, part of a long piece that gives it way more attention than you know, good movies:

    The film received positive reviews overall, with critics praising its original take on the Bonnie and Clyde archetype, and commending its style and western iconography influences. It garnered numerous critical awards and nominations and was listed in the top ten films of 2013 by many domestic and international film publications, but ultimately under-performed at the box office.

    In other words, you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. For it’s entire theatrical run, it took in just over $1 million, WORLDWIDE.

    I think I saw this but apparently it left no resonance whatsoever. Maybe I didn’t see it. I will pretend I didn’t.

      Patti, AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS only resonated negatively with me. I like Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck’s talents, but whoever decided to keep them apart on-screen for most of this movie made a Big Mistake.

        We did. Jackie was really impressed with the look of the movie, and she loved the sister in the sort of Q role as in the Bond movies.

    I saw this on DVD several years ago and remember absolutely nothing about it. However, the most recent movie by writer-director David Lowery, “A Ghost Story”, also starring Affleck and Mara, is quite good. Despite the title it’s not a horror movie, although it’s pretty strange. Currently available on Prime.
