Good set if you don’t have any of these. Altho no Strangers On a Train? I already own my favorites on Bluray ( Rear Window, Psycho, Vertigo, North By Northwest, the Birds, Shadow Of A Doubt). This does include some clunkers such as Topaz and Marnie. Still a good price.

At a rental a few years ago, they had a boxed set of his earliest work. It was fun watching those first films although I prefer the later work.

I agree with most of Steve’s choices. I’d probably say:

    NORTH BY NORTHWEST
    SHADOW OF A DOUBT
    PSYCHO
    REAR WINDOW
    THE 39 STEPS

I have a book on Hitchcock that I constantly refer to. It lists each movie, and tells where Hitchvcock’s cameo is.

Shadow of a Doubt doesn’t ring a bell with me, so off to IMDB to ck it out

George, the best bio on Hitchcock is Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Life by Patrick McGilligan. The Truffaut/Hitchcock book is also very informative.

Steve, I have both of those books. I’ve read the Truffaut/Hitchcock, but the McGilligan is on the Read Real Soon stack. I also have the Ackroyd bio of Hitchcock on that same stack of books.

I have the McGilligan book. I looked up and I have seen shadow of a doubt, but don’t remember the end, so worth another view next time it’s on tcm

I liked the early Hitchcock movies too but my clear favourite is North By Northwest!

That house in the mountains really fascinated me – I dreamed of building something similar as a young man …

I didn’t really like Psycho, The Birds and others, though I can’t say why …

I prefer Psycho then Rear Window and Strangers On A Train. Although North By Northwest is probably the most fun. I feel Vertigo overrated. Kim Novak looks nice but isn’t much of an actress and Jimmy Stewart comes across as a little too creepy in this role.
