BARGAIN OF THE WEEK: BODY HEAT [Blu-ray]

As I gradually replace my favorite DVDs with Blu-rays, I’m thrilled that BJ’s Warehouse is helping me out. This week they offered the Blu-ray version of Body Heat for a mere $9.99. I loved Body Heat when it was first released in 1981. I’ve owned the VHS tape, the DVD, and now the Blu-ray. Kathleen Turner, the sultry femme fatale and William Hurt, the obsessed pawn, generate sparks every time they’re on the screen. This Blu-ray edition includes lifted scenes; 3 steamy featurettes: Body Heat: The Plan – Screenplay and casting; The Production: Filming; The Post-Production: Editing, scoring and release, as well as vintage interviews with Kathleen Turner and William Hurt, and the theatrical trailer. For less than $10, this is a bargain!

Yes, usually the broken windows were used as birthing metaphors in the Bad Old Days.

I saw it, not knowing anything about it going in, in a double feature, with my then 10 year old brother, with BLADE RUNNER, at a 95c theater in Kailua, HI…and wondered if he was going to ask me what was going on in, say, the anal sex scene, and how much I needed to answer.

Mush as when I saw THE SILENT PARTNER and THE SHINING on the same double-bill around that time, the previously unknown (to me) film made the stronger positive impression.

Kathleen Turner was still striking as late as VI WARSHAWSKI and TERMINAL MOM…in fact, is still handsome despite adding a lot of weight as a result of a degenerative condition she’s fighting gamely. I’m sorry I missed her in the local run of the Molly Ivins play.

Yes, Kathleen Turner turned up in plenty of my fantasies after I watched BODY HEAT, Todd. Wow, BLADE RUNNER and BODY HEAT as a double feature! You can’t beat that!
