CHANGES By Jim Butcher

The 12th book of Harry Dresden adventures presents huge shifts in the story arc of the series. Harry Dresden, Wizard and Private Investigator, receives a visit from his ex-girl friend, Susan. Susan tells Harry he has a 7-year-old daughter named Maggie. Then Susan tells Harry that the Red Court of vampires has kidnapped Maggie and intend to use her in a death ritual.

If you check out the cover artwork for Changes by Chris McGrath, you’ll figure out where this death ritual is scheduled to take place. In addition to the Red Court, thousands of deadly creatures will be guarding the site.

Harry realizes he can’t rescue his daughter by himself so he makes some Big Decisions which will change the future novels in this series. Needless to say, the battle at the conclusion of Changes explodes with Harry’s fury at those who would sacrifice his daughter to further their dark schemes. Jim Butcher makes a lot of gambles in this book. I’m eager to see if they work out. GRADE: A-

Jeff, I only have a few more left. The just published PEACE TALKS has sold plenty of copies. Plus, anther new Dresden novel, BATTLEGROUND, shows up in September.

There must be hundreds, nay thousands, of these! You’re reading them all, it seems. Aren’t you getting tired of them? But then I read all of the Pern books back-to-back, so maybe not.

Rick, Jim Butcher tells a good story in each book. CHANGES features a titanic battle. And, Butcher isn’t hesitant about killing off major characters, either.

Rick, Western NY was hot and humid yesterday so I basically stayed inside. Today, Diane and I will walk a couple of miles around our neighborhood while the humidity is low and the temperatures are moderate. Next week, the weather forecasts predict temperatures in the 70s–more comfortable by far!
