A funny aside:
In Germany Father’s Day is about a month earlier – officially it’s Ascension day, Thursday 39 days after Easter.
I remember that when I was younger we “fathers” used to take a little cart with a beer barrel (or should it be keg?) out into the woods and have a big party – no girls allowed!

Happy Father’s Day to you, George, and all the other Dads out there! Years ago, my father gave me a refrigerator magnet: “When all else fails, call Dad.” I can’t tell you how many times through the years I did just that. My Dad’s no longer with us, but a few weeks ago, when John was getting out of bed and dressed at midnight to go help Lilly who was having car trouble (she works the night shift), I thought, “And the cycle continues.”
Menu for today: Grilled rack of lamb, roasted asparagus, and rice. Victoria and I will also be making a chocolate cake, to be served for dessert with (of course) chocolate ice cream.
Deb, I think about my father every day. He had the “Fix-It” gene that I didn’t get. My father could fix just about everything. And, he was a excellent painter. He used to work Summers painting houses. The menu for today is Prime Rib with veggies for me, BBQ ribs with baked potato for Diane. Of course, salads–broccoli and greens, potato, and macaroni–and desserts: Chocolate Cake and ice cream. Best Fathers’s Day wishes to John!

Michael, I’m hoping the NFL figures something out so games can be played this season. But, I suspect the stadiums will be empty.

Patti, thank you for your kind words. When he was six years old, my father had to deal with the death of his father due to a farm equipment accident. My father mentioned that growing up without a father motivated him to want to be a great father when he had kids to raise. My father was always there for my sisters, my brother, and me. He adored my mother. I think about him every day.

I got books off my Amazon wish list from my wife and daughter and son-in-law, and a cool old 1976 Tolkien biography by Daniel Grotta that my daughter found in a used bookstore several months ago.
We spent the day playing games and eating good food.
