Maybe the two most important things we have going for us is that Biden is a decent person, which Trump was not and never could be, and the fact that Biden knows how government works, which Trump came in neither knowing nor caring about. There are no guarantees, but those two things are a good start.
As someone who braced Biden face o face over his bad behavior and bad decisions thirty years ago, and notes he remains someone who dismisses a national health service out of hand among his other continuing bad ideas, I’m not at all sure he’s a Decent Person, so much as typical hack who has had some terrible personal experiences…and hasn’t as yet learned that political opportunism isn’t the same thing as genuine statecraft (see his deal with Clyburn that had all the other centrists step aside).
That said, I’ll take the typical corruption over the berserk reactionary improvisation from an administration under the direction of a malignant narcissist and his band of thugs. I won’t like it, but I’ll take it.
As happily as this kind of thing can get, the Trumpista putsch was populated by clowns. I wonder if they thought they would be allowed to do much more than serve as targets for the police and soldiers being assembled to route them, had they chosen to be any more obstreperous.
