INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE

independence day resurgance
Yes, the plot of Independence Day: Resurgence is pretty much the same plot as the original movie from 20 years ago. Aliens attack the Earth. This time, the aliens bring a space ship 3,500 miles long! When it lands, it takes up most of the Atlantic Ocean! Mass disasters, floods, explosions, and devastation result. Some of the cast from the original Independence Day reprise their roles: Bill Pullman as the former president, Jeff Goldblum as the nerdy scientist, Judd Hirsch as Goldblum’s father, and Brent Spinner as a wacky inventor. Sela Ward plays the President. Humanity has prepared for the return of the aliens, but it’s too little too late. A desperate mission is hatched to save the planet. Of course, everything goes wrong. But plenty of fireworks and gallantry fuel the climatic battle scenes. If you’re looking for an action-packed Summer Pop-corn movie, Independence Day: Resurgence fits the bill. GRADE: B+

My girlfriend will probably want to go see it so she can jump up & down in her seat & shake me senseless.

Dan, there are some jump-up-and-down moments in INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE. Watch what happens to some of the world’s most famous monuments!

Jackie loves the original and watches it all the time, but even she is going to skip this one until it hits TV.

Jeff, as Sergio so astutely observed, INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE is really a remake of the original. Without Will Smith.

I loved the first one. I’m glad you liked this one. I don’t think this will be a “in the theater” movie for me, though. Probably netflix it.

My next theater one will be Tarzan!!!

Rick, INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE isn’t essential watching. It’s just a fun Summer Movie spectacular. Watching famous landmarks get obliterated really kicks the Fourth of July season off right!

I tend to agree with Steve…even Sela Ward’s participation can’t get me to spend money on this one. (ID4 struck me as very comparable to BATTLEFIELD EARTH.)

Good cast but not my kind of movie. I am steering away from apocalyptic movies until the world seems safer.

Patti, mass destruction seems to be in vogue this Summer: X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and INDEPENDENCE DAY 2. SUICIDE SQUAD looks like it features plenty of explosions, too.

    George –

I saw this last night! It is the original film but bigger and faster. The ship is bigger and faster. She is huge. Kids in peril. Bill Pullman chewing scenery. It’s a fun popcorn film. Like you I would give it a B+.

I have to confess that I don’t really like these “Destrution Operas” that Emmerich produces, but of course many people expect this from SF.

    A bit OT:

He’s an interesting cjaracter, a Schwab (grew up not far from where I live near Stuttgart, the home of Mercedes and Bosch …) and a Science Fiction fan – and openly gay …

He comes from a wealthy family and was lucky: his father allowed ( and paid for …) him to go on holiday often as a youngster, not only the USA – look here:

Wolf, I’m partial to Emmerich’s films. Even though INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE made $46 million over the weekend, it’s being labelled “a loser.”
