KITCHENAID HAND MIXER

One of the few appliances I brought to my marriage was a avocado green J.C. Penny hand mixer. I bought it in 1975 and it worked for 40 years. Sadly, it died last week. Consumer Reports estimates most appliances last from 5 to 7 years. I certainly got my money’s worth with that hand mixer! Diane and I embarked on a search for a replacement hand mixer. J. C. Penny doesn’t make hand mixers any more so that avenue was out. Diane loves her Kitchenaid stand mixer so we decided to look at the Kitchenaid hand mixers. They come in all sorts of colors. The 5-speed mixer we finally bought is lighter than our old mixer and much, much quieter. The Kitchenaid hand mixer is powerful and easy to use. We like it! If you’re looking for a new hand mixer, I recommend the Kitchenaid.

George, I have not seen a Kitchenaid hand mixer in regular stores in my neck of the woods although it might be available in shops dealing with imported goods. Apart from a big mixer, we also use a small Black and Decker blender that’s good for chopping onions and tomatoes. I like the attachment on your Kitchenaid which, I assume, can be used to beat eggs or buttermilk.

I also strongly recommend the Kitchenaid immersable blender, which is great for pureeing soups and other liquid/soft food blending. I use mine to blend yogurt and fruit smoothies too!

Deb, we may be in the market for a blender soon. The kitchenaid blender might be just what we need! They make a pretty good toaster, too.

We don’t cook much any more but Jackie loves the look of those immersible ones. We still have our old hand mixer and it still works, even though I had to duct tape it a couple of years ago! If we get another it will probably be one like this,

    Keep stimulating the economy!

I bought a hand-held mixer similar to this about six years ago, a Hamilton Beach. It has three sets of beaters for different tasks and works quite well for the things we ask it to do. It’s no substitute for our Kitchen Aid stand mixer, but it’s handy for small jobs. We don’t use it a lot, so I’m expecting it to last a good while, though of course “they don’t make ’em like they used to”. A submersible blender is an attractive idea, but we’d only use it once every couple of months at most so it’s not practical from a cost or storage space aspect. Some combination of blender/ food processor (we have a Cuisinart) and masher usually does the job.

Jackie certainly stimulated the economy at Clarks and Ecco outlets on the way down! So far here it was Walmart yesterday and Target today. More will follow, I’m sure.

Jeff, the Stock Market is up today because the European Union announced a stimulus program where they’re going to pump $58 billion per month into their economy. Jackie comes close to that!

We may use a mixer 6-10 times a year and the one we have dates to the mists of antiquity. I had a blender since 1970 and that was second-hand, but Linda thought it was too grody and got a new one. It rarely gets used.

Bob, that’s the problem with many kitchen appliances, they’re not needed often, but they take up plenty of space in the cupboard. But when you do need them, there’s no substitute. I doubt I’d toss an appliance because of how it looks, only if it didn’t work.
