The most moving part of my father’s funeral was the salute and presentation of the flag by two soldiers. My father had enlisted at 17 after Pearl Harbor and served four years, much of the time in England working on airplanes.

Jeff, my Dad served in the Pacific on a destroyer. My Dad had a lot of stories about those years. I wish I’d written them down.

Patti, we’re just going to relax after our quick trip to Springfiled, MA. That was a lot of hours in a car. Hope you and Phil enjoy the day.

I’m grateful to everyone who has served or is serving in the military–especially my sister who retired in 2012 after 25 years in the Air Force. Let’s remember our veterans not just today but every day.

Happy Memorial Day to you and the family, George. As a memorial, I always take time to remember favorite memories I have of my parents and grandparents. Not a “military” memorial for us.

We did have ribs, potato salad, deviled eggs and pie yesterday. Since it’s raining today, we thought it best to grill a day early.

We can’t do car trips over five hours. Maybe that’s all it is from Buffalo to Springfield though.
