NEW YORK GIANTS VS. BUFFALO BILLS

After last Saturday’s 19-18 squeaker loss to the Colts, the Bills got more Bad News. Defensive end, Marcell Dareus, “forgot” to take a schedule NFL drug test so now he’s suspended for four games. Linebacker Manny Lawson is facing a one-game suspension for “domestic abuse.” Yet Rex Ryan assures Bills fans that “We’re right on track.” For what? DEADSPIN has a different opinion here. How is your team faring as the preseason winds down?

No one can figure out why the Saints have to train in Greenbriar, West Virginia, because they have a perfectly good facility right here in the area, but W.V. is where they’ve been going for the past few years. (I’m assuming someone in the Benson family is making money on the deal.) So we have local New Orleans media reporting on our local New Orleans team in West Virginia. However, there’s generally a black-out on showing video of the team practicing, which leads to things like the crazy bit I saw the other night where a reporter, standing outside the Greenbriar training facility, attempted to re-enact the great over-the-shoulder catch she had witnessed. Surreal!

Anyway, the Saints are now in Houston, where they play the Texans tonight. The Saints are going to be playing for the next 6-8 weeks without their first-round draft pick, defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins, who broke his fibula during practice this week. The Saints had already lost a pass-rusher to a season-ending ACL tear. These injuries don’t bode well for the Saints–which had one of 2015’s worst defenses.

Deb, the injuries continue to mount for the Bills, too. I don’t know how NFL teams can keep a healthy roster with players tearing ACLs and breaking bones.

    oops

I hate when that happens. I guess we’ll see how the Giants do tonight. I hope it is cooler up there than it is down here.

during one point in the years long “negotiations” for a new stadium, the chargers went up to the la area for training camp. Cost them a lot more as they had to put the players up in hotels and the facility I heard wasn’t as nice. Since the Carson stadium fizzled out, we’ll have to see what the vote on stadium funding brings.

13 years ago one of the paper’s sports guys suggested giving them Qualcomm, letting them develop it which would have brought in a lot of tax revenue for the city and let the team put up the money for the development. If they’d done that, we’d be having super bowls here. sigh

Maggie, some NFL teams own their stadiums, others don’t. There’s a movement for the Buffalo Bills to build a new domed stadium in downtown Buffalo. But no one is coming up with the billion dollars it would cost.

As I said last week, I’m not paying any attention to the pre-season Seattle Seahawks. I haven’t noticed any injury reports in the sports section, but the paper is iffy at best on such stuff. They didn’t address their biggest need in off-season/draft, offensive line, so Wilson may end up running around a lot. They won’t have Lynch, so it may be running by committee. We’ll just have to see how it goes. My present concern is the heat, we’ll see 102 or higher here today, which is extreme fro Portland Thank goodness we have air.

Rick, I can’t imagine how people cope with these 90 and 100 degree temperatures without A/C! The Bills break Training Camp on Monday. Their next two preseason games are on the road.

I’m glad I refused to watch preseason games. The Giants offense (sic) was non-existent yesterday in an embarrassing shutout. Let’s hope they get their act together in the next couple of weeks.

    Up next: the Jets.
