PITTSBURGH STEELERS VS. BUFFALO BILLS

pittsburgh-steelers-vs-buffalo-bills
The 6-6 Buffalo Bills have a 9% chance of making the NFL Playoffs. Today, the Bills host the 7-5 Pittsburgh Steelers. Snow is in the forecast. Clearly, if the Bills lose today their ulta-slim Playoff hopes are over. Last week, the Bills had a 24-9 lead over Oakland. Then, inexplicably, both the Bills offense and defense stopped playing. Could that happen today? Stay tuned. How will your favorite NFL team fare today?

The Detroit Lions are trying for their 8th win in a row today. They may actually get into the playoffs this year.

Steve, I’ve always liked the Lions. They remind me of the Bills. Similar teams, similar fates although the Lions are on the rise and the Bills are stuck in mediocrity.

They will lose, in all likelihood. The Giants’ best chance to beat the Cowboys tonight at the Meadowlands:

    1. Jerry Jones insists Tony Romo start at quarterback
    2. The incoming snow and cold is a lot worse than predicted
    3. Did I mention Tony Romo?

The Cowboys will want to avenge their only loss of the season, which makes it worse, and the Giants (now without Jason Pierre-Paul for the rest of the season) have not been playing well enough to win this. They can still make the playoffs even if they lose, but they still have the Lions, Eagles, and Redskins ahead of them.

At least it has to be better than the Jets-49ers game, right?

After last week’s dispiriting performance, the 5-7 Saints journey to Tampa to take on the 7-5 Buccaneers. The Bucs have a four-game win streak going and are clearly on an upswing, while the boys in black-and-gold are just playing out the rest of the season. I’m glad the Saints have won one Superbowl with Drew Breese or he would be one of those great quarterbacks who could just never make it to the promised land.

I remember hating that the Chargers got rid of Brees after his injury. He and the Saints showed them what a class act he and they are. He came back to SD (he owns a beach house here, or did) and did a signing of his autobiography at Sams club. I got one signed, and asked him to sign a book written by ex chargers equipment manager sid brooks (I used to work with his daughter in law and heard tons of great stories). He gave me a funny look, but was nice enough to sign it. I’ve got it signed by lots of players, including ones from the 80’s and 90’s.

The chargers are just a farm team for future superbowl winners.

Deb, do you know why Darren Sproles isn’t with the Saints any longer. I’d heard Drew was instrumental in getting him to go to NOLA so they could play together.

Maggie, with the Oakland Raiders seemingly moving to Vegas, the Chargers will be pursued by Oakland. The Rams moved from St. Louis to L.A. but that didn’t improve them.

The Cowboys are due for a loss and will have to contend with a good Giants defense and an inconsistent Eli Manning. If Manning is on his game, the Giants could take this one. The hapless Texans will be pounded into the turf by the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Maggie, I saw this in the NY Daily News this morning:

    I LOVE L.A.

The Chargers have until Jan. 15 to exercise their option to become the Rams’ tenant in Los Angeles. It would be a shame if the Chargers left San Diego but the recent proposal raising hotel tax to help build a stadium/convention center was rejected in a public vote. If Chargers pass on their L.A. option, the Raiders would have a one-year L.A. option. But Raiders owner Mark Davis is intent on moving to Las Vegas. There could be a vote of NFL owners in January.

For some reason, Spanos is intent on a downtown stadium. The Qualcomm site is so much better. Near freeways and the trolley. Anyone coming to town for a game could easily take the trolley to and from the stadium. They could do what the broncos did and play in the old one whilst building the new one.

I read somewhere if they move they have to pay a huge relocation fee, but the figure I saw surely had to be a typo $500,000,000. (or reader error).

The money they’ve spent on carson and other relocation efforts could have been used to build a new stadium. The city spent a lot of money to upgrade the Q to no avail. It’s time for the NFL and the teams to build their own stadiums – they can surely afford to do so.

In what could be one of the bet games of the day, or a nasty blowout, the Seahawks take on the Packers in Green Bay. The Seahawks always seem to have a hard time with Green Bay, and the weather is likely to be brutal. I’m almost afraid to look. The Seahawks will probably the NFC West (it would be a surprise if they didn’t), but how much further they can go will depend on if they can get a bye to rest and heal, and how banged up they are anyway. If they were full strength, I’d say they had a good chance at the NFC title game (probably against Dallas), but as things are, I see them going one game at most.

    Still, today? No idea.

Since the Giants are playing tonight we are getting Seattle -Green Bay as well as the Jets-49ers and Philadelphia-Washington.

Man, that was a mess in Miami. Torrential downpours. Good for Seattle, however, as Arizona losing pretty much gives it to them. And Denver lost, looks like there is a good chance they will miss the playoffs. Unfortunately for the Giants, the Redskins pulled it out at the end against the Eagles.

5 interceptions. I believe that’s more than ever before in a game. They always have trouble with Green Bay but they HAVE A LOUSY OFFENSIVE LINE (Pete Carroll, please take note) and have been in a must throw situation for most of the day. What a miserable performance.

Detroit may pull ahead to the 2 seed and the Seahawks be lucky to win a wild card. Or anything. I keep saying they are overrated. This proves it, I think.

      Rats.

On the up side, the Seahawks will win their division! Another bright spot is that Dallas lost! Maybe Seattle can atone Thursday night against the hated Rams!

What about that Giants game? I was amazed. It was like the Giants defense of old. Lawrence Taylor and the rest must have been proud last night.

Rick, I wouldn’t worry about the wildcard. The Seahawks have a three game lead with three to go. I would worry about the playoffs, however, after that awful performance.

Now let’s hope the hot Buccaneers can take down the Cowboys next Sunday night.

Jeff, Tampa looks like a dangerous team on the rise. The Giants have the Playoff edge over the Cowboys by beating them TWICE! Congratulations on a Big Win!
