RECOMMENDATION #38: MARCELLA SAYS: ITALIAN COOKING WISDOM By Marcella Hazan

marcella says
I’m a big fan of Italian food. Friends have recommended Marcella Hazan’s cookbooks to me for years. I finally got around to reading one: Marcella Says: Italian Cooking Wisdom from the Legendary Teacher’s Master Classes, With 120 of Her Irresistible New Recipes. Just a few pages into Marcella Say I discovered Marcella Hazan is a cook, not a chef. No exotic ingrediants, no bizarre techniques, no need for a blow-torch, just straight-forward cooking. I’ve tried a few recipes and found them delicious! I really liked the Asparagus and Shrimp Risotto. If you’re into Italian food, Marcella Says is worth a look. GRADE: B+

If I had to choose one type of food to eat all the time to the exclusion of all others it would definitely be Italian.

I don’t see us cooking risotto, however, and Jackie won’t eat asparagus. Let us know how it comes out.

Pizza is Italian, and good enough for me, but I like spaghetti and lasagna too. Barbara makes great spaghetti and lasagna and the joint down the street supplies the pizza. I just saved the price of this book.

Yum, love lasagna too. But then I love most kinds of pasta. Jackie discovered our favorite local Italian restaurant makes great gnocchi.

A pound of Ronzoni and a jar of Ragu and I’m good. I’ve never had lasagne as good as my grandmother or kid sister made, so it’s always a disappointment whether frozen or from a restaurant.
