ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY [Blu-ray]

I enjoyed Rogue One when it was in the theaters. You can read my review here. Now, this Blu-ray disc is in stores and selling fast. When Disney purchased the Star Wars franchise, they developed a strategy of “one-off” movies like Rogue One and the upcoming Han Solo movie to keep fans satisfied while the main Star Wars movies are being filmed. Special features on this Blu-ray edition include: “The Princess and the Governor,” “Rogue Connections” (Easter Eggs), “A Rogue Idea,” and “Visions of Hope: The Look of Rogue One“. The TARGET edition of Rogue One includes exclusive content: “Inside the Creature Shop” with Neal Scanlan.” GRADE: B+

I really wanted to like this but all the evidence of post-=production tampering, looking at the early trailers, really made it clear to me that while entertaining enough, they just didn’t have a clear enough idea of what story they really wanted to tell. Which is a shame as this has bags of potential. But most of the people I know loved it, so clearly in a minority here!

Sergio, I had the same feeling you did about ROGUE ONE. That’s why I gave it a B+. ROGUE ONE is entertaining, but the Force is weak.

My gripe is that every Star Wars movie plot is too similar to the others. Can’t they come up with a new idea?

Patti, once George Lucas had success with his STAR WARS template, he just went ahead and made the movies (and his billions).

this is the first star wars movie I didn’t see in the theater, and regret it. I think you need the big screen to enjoy it. I had a lingering cold, and even though I go to movies in the am when there are fewer people, I didn’t want to cough thru the show and ruin it for others.

I’ll catch it on netflix. and perhaps buy the dvd

Maggie, some of the theaters around here will show STAR WARS movies in the weeks preceding the release of a new STAR WARS movie. You might be able to see ROGUE ONE on the Big Screen later this year before the next STAR WARS movie opens.

We saw it in Florida. Good but not great, as Marv Lachman would say. Still, it definitely benefited from the big screen.

We did find it disconcerting to suddenly see Peter Cushing, who died in 1994, on the screen. It was creepy.

I haven’t watched many sf movies in the last ten years – once we saw Avatar on tv and had to laugh all the time because it was too much “Kitsch”, the same for the second bunch of Star Wars films.
Imho Lucas wrote the whole Star Wars saga as a kind of fairy tale – and they’re for children and too childish for my taste, the “technology” is bizarre and unrealistic for a scientist like me, sorry.

The last one I really liked was the Space Cowboys, though it’s also a bit kitschy it was real fun for a fan of science and science fiction!

It’s Space Opera, Wolfi, and as such doesn’t need to be hard science fiction, just fun science fiction. I don’t think it’s fair to say “it’s for children” if you mean JUST for children.

I also can’t wait for it. When it’s on, I often play the opening with Chris Pratt dancing to 70’s music

Maggie, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY was a surprise Summer Movie hit. The sequel is getting a lot more resources and advertising.

Went to two different Target stores. Both were sold out of the special Target version, both said they usually sell out THE FIRST DAY. So I drove all over for nothing. Got a regular Blu-ray version.
