SAN DIEGO CHARGERS VS. BUFFALO BILLS

Bryan Scott, Philip Rivers
The San Diego Chargers dominated the Super Bowl winning Seattle Seahawks last Sunday in a 30-21 win. Today, the Chargers are in town to face the 2-0 Bills. This will be a Major Test for the young Bills. Philip Rivers is the best quarterback they’ve faced this season. Somehow, the Bills defense needs to find a way to control All-World Tight End Antonio Gates who scored three TDs against the Seahawks. How will your team do today?

Let’s not even go there. The Giants host the Texans at 1 and if they lose – as looks likely after the first two weeks – it will be time to Wait Until Next Year.

    Just terrible.

I’m not sure if it’s too soon to start using adjectives such as “hapless,” “ill-omened,” or “literally defenseless” when discussing the Saints, but going into their home opener (against the Vikings) at 0-2 was certainly not the way the Who-Dat Nation envisioned things. If the boys in black-and-gold can’t pull out a win today, I suspect Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan will be out of a job tomorrow.

Deb, I saw at least a dozen replays of Sean Payton reaming out Rob Ryan during that Viking game. Your prediction about Rob Ryan’s future could come true.

George, the NY Times is predicting a Bills win, for what that’s worth. The Chargers have to fly across the country after last week’s tough win. We’ll see.

Deb, hard to believe the Saints won’t win at home, especially without Peterson playing for the Vikings.

The 1:25PT / 4:25ET game is Broncos at Seahawks. Thanks goodness the game is at SafeCo Field, but the improved-on-paper 2-0 Broncos are always a handful, and many of their upgrades are a direct result of that Super Bowl game. After last week’s beating, which was worse than the score indicates, the Seahawks defensive secondary should be less cocky. I’m not sure if Russell and Co. can win this, but if they can, being at home will help. I’m almost afraid to watch.

Elsewhere, I’ll be rooting for the Bills and Cardinals. Barbara is in San Diego and may have a chance to watch the Chargers-Bills game (on TV), though her daughter is dragging her off to some Polynesian music festival (I don’t know, so don’t ask) before she goes to the airport to fly back here. I’ll miss the later game as I’ll be driving to PDX and back, an hour each way.

Tough loss, George. The Chargers are better than expected, at least so far. The Seattle-Denver game is about to start. Oi.

Oh man. That was WAY to close, and the vaunted Seattle defense seemed to fall apart in the last 5 minutes. In spite of Phil “Jabberjaw” Simms obvious announcing bias for Denver, the Seahawks managed to win out. WHEW !!!!

I could NOT believe the Seahawks defense let Peyton march 80 yards in 40 seconds. That was bad.

I thought they were protesting because Simms was anti-Broncos. Now he’s anti-Seahawks? I did wonder if he was trying to bend over backwards to praise Denver because they said he went the other way in the past.

    I thought so:

Also in 2014, Denver Broncos fans started a change.org petition that garnered over 40,000 signatures to remove Simms from Broncos broadcasts. Simms often appeared to root for the Broncos’ opponents and consistently made commentary favorable to whomever the Broncos were playing. The petition continues to grow.
