THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO [Three-Disc Combo Blu-ray / DVD + UltraViolet Digital Copy]

I love the Swedish version of the DRAGON TATTOO trilogy, but director David Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo holds plenty of delights as well. Daniel Craig plays the obsessive reporter, Mikael Blomkvist. Rooney Mara portrays the enigmatic Lisbeth Salander. Although I prefer Noomi Rapace’s more gritty performance as Lisbeth Salander, Rooney Mara is very good in her role. I picked this version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo as one of my FAVORITE MOVIES OF 2011. If you haven’t seen either the Swedish or American films of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, you’re missing out on world-class thrills. GRADE: A

I’ve read Stieg Larsson’s books and seen all the movies, Randy. The novels are problematic because the author died before they were published. The novels need a good editor, but they possess plenty of power. The Swedish films and this American movie are highly recommended.

The last I heard the filming of the next two movies was “up in the air,” Patti. Maybe strong DVD sales will encourage Sony to green-light the project.

I thought they did a great job translating the Swedish books into the movies, and Noomi Rapace was Lisbeth Salander. I’ve heard good things about Mara but haven’t yet seen it for myself, though I suppose I will.

Randy, try the first book and see if you like it. As George said, he could have used an editor but I thought it was worth the time to read it.

I totally agree, Jeff. The Swedish movies are the Gold Standard for me. Noomi Rapace was amazing! But Rooney Mara performs very well, too.

The Swedish films are only “the gold standard” if you don’t mind SUBTITLES! I absolutely cannot abide subtitles, so they would be completely unwatchable for me, and I’m not alone in that by a very long shot.

Barbara loved the books and is eager to see the film.
