THE INCREDIBLES 2

It’s been 14 years since The Incredibles burst on the scene. Why it took Pixar so long to come up with a sequel to the original hit movie is a bit of a mystery. Holly Hunter is back as the voice of Elastigirl, Craig T. Nelson voices Mr. Incredible, Violet (Sarah Vowell) and Dash (Huck Milner) are back with their baby brother, Jack-Jack. In 14 years, the technology has advanced so The Incredibles 2 looks fabulous. My quibble is that the storyline borders on predictability. All the cool special effects and family angst doesn’t make up for that weakness. In Bill Crider’s famous words, The Incredibles 2 is good, but not great. GRADE: B+

Right. And it was Marv Lachman, not Bill, famous (or infamous) for saying that THE MALTESE FALCON was good but not great.

I also found it incredible (so to speak) that it took them 14 years to come up with a sequel.

Jeff, Marv may have originated the “Good, but not Great” line but Bill used it a lot in his emails and on his blog. It seems inexplicable that Pixar waited 14 years to make another The Incredibles movie. Baffling.

True. It’s funny. When we saw the Lucinda Williams concert the other night, I was again taken with her distinctive voice and accent, and Holly Hunter was the one it made me think of, even though they really aren’t that similar. Hunter is from Georgia, Williams from Lake Charles, Louisiana and Arkansas (where she grew up).

Jeff, Lucinda Williams rarely performs in Western NY. I’ve been tempted to go to one of her concerts in Canada.

Patti, only I would confuse Holly Hunter with Helen Hunt (so many H’s!). You’re right about Holly Hunter’s voice. From the first syllable, you know it’s her.
