THE JOHN HUGHES YEARBOOK COLLECTION: The Breakfast Club / Sixteen Candles / Weird Science [Blu-ray]

JOHN HUGHES YEARBOK COLLECTION
It’s been 30 years since The Breakfast Club first appeared on the movie screens of America. That surprise hit movie lead to Sixteen Candles (my favorite John Hughes movie) and then to Weird Science. Hughes used Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy in these films to great effect. If you’re in the mood for a walk down Memory Lane, this collection captures the essence of the Eighties. What’s your favorite John Hughes movie? GRADE: A

None of the above. Jackie’s sister loved THE BREAKFAST CLUB. I prefer SIXTEEN CANDLES. But my favorite Hughes movies are ones he wrote but didn’t direct, NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION and CHRISTMAS VACATION.

Jeff, I’m with you on SIXTEEN CANDLES. I fell for Molly Ringwald hard back then. Hughes wrote a great script for NATIONAL LAMPOON’S VACATION. I don’t think I saw CHRISTMAS VACATION.

I like all three of these, and also liked PRETTY IN PINK. This, for once (referring to my comment on the animated set the other day), is a set I’d buy. And watch. I must be one of the few who’s not a big fan of FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF. Back in the day I rented the VHS of it, but only watched it halfway through.

THE BREAKFAST CLUB is one I remember with great fondness but could never really get on with WEIRD SCIENCE (as delectable as la Brock is in it). FERRIS BUELLER is probably the onle I liked the most though PLANES TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES did have me howling with laughter.

Sergio, your comment shows that John Hughes’ movies really entertained you. Hughes was able to string together an impressive run of movie hits.
