TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE

AMAZON is offering the DVD version of Treasure of the Sierra Madre for $4. That qualifies as a Bargain of the Week. The movie version is based on B. Traven’s hellish novel about good and greed. Humphrey Bogart, Tom Holt, and Walter Huston hunt for a lost mine and find nothing but trouble. Treasure of the Sierra Madre was released in 1948. It was one of the first Hollywood movies to be filmed in Mexico. John Huston won an Oscar for Best Director and another Oscar for Best Screenplay for this movie. I think it’s terrific…especially for $4!

One of my favorite movies of all time. Love Bogart. The blu ray of The African Queen is gorgeous if you haven’t seen it.

Don’t forget–John Huston’s father, Walter, won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for this movie. The first time a son had directed his father to an Oscar. Almost 40 years later, John Huston would direct his daughter, Angelica, to an Oscar for “Prizzi’s Honor”.

And let’s not forget Alfonso Bedoya and his classic line:

Dobbs: “If you’re the police, then where are your badges?”
Gold Hat: “Badges? We ain’t got no badges. We don’t need no badges. I don’t have to show you any stinkin’ badges!”

Jeff, that “stinkin’ badges” line is a classic! John Huston won a well-deserved Oscar for the Screenplay to TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE.

Rick, “darn good” is a mild understatement. Sure, I like Bogie as a private eye, too. But he’s terrific in this role of a prospector in TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE.

Seems to me I saw it recently, or part of it. It’s definitely one of the better movies ever made.

Did you know there is a colorized version of Plan 9 From Outer Space? Talk about a waste of technology.

Bob, the movie industry will do anything to generate sales. Colorizing B&W films is just a marketing scam. Like you, I’m against it.
