THE SECRET OF SATAN’S SPINE By Kenneth Robeson (Will Murray)

secret of satan's spine
As a long-time fan of the Doc Savage series, I celebrate these new volumes written by Will Murray (and Lester Dent) every time they appear. This new adventure, The Secret of Satan’s Spine, features a hot blonde leading Doc Savage and his team to the Caribbean to solve a mystifying puzzle with global implications. Altus Press does a great job packaging this series. I really like this cover by Joe DeVito. If you’re in the mood for classic pulp fiction with a dash of High Adventure, The Secret of Satan’s Spine is your ticket to fun! GRADE: B+

I’ve never read a Doc Savage either, though the Murray books certainly look tempting. I just have too many other priorities.

    How was your Anniversary dinner?

Jeff, I had Stuffed Hot Peppers for an appetizer, Coconut Shrimp for my entree, and Coconut Cream Pie for dessert (I love coconut!). Diane had a Garden Salad, Chicken Florentine, and her favorite Chocolate Lava Cake for dessert. The Hideaway Grill staff knew it was our Anniversary so they brought us complementary glasses of champagne! The Anniversary dinner lifted our spirits after a difficult day.

Nice. Jackie loves coconut too (if not coconut cream pie). We’re going to go to our favorite Italian restaurant tomorrow before the New Year’s Eve Jimmy Buffett/Huey Lewis concert. It will be the first time we’ve been out at night on New Year’s Eve since 2006 in Arizona, when we took my parents to dinner and to see the movie version of DREAMGIRLS. I’d rather stay home as a rule.

Jeff, our New Year’s Eve plans are vague right now. I suspect, giving Diane’s month of almost sleepless nights, we might just hit the hay early. Patrick and Katie will be out celebrating the New Year.

I’m way behind on the series, but have all but this one. Sounds like the dinner was very nice. Your early-to-bed plan is a good one. We rarely stay up to midnight any more, though the neighbors people making noise at Midnight will wake me up.

Our New Year’s eve plans are as usual, stay home. But we’ll probably watch the three bowl games on Thursday and three more on Friday, plus watch the Rose Parade, so it will be a lot of TV time. The best thing is we are going to have five sunny, if cold, with highs in the mid 30s, days in a row. Yay.

Rick, your plans sound like fun. Winter has arrived in Western New York with snow and seasonal temperatures in the low 30s. I kinda miss those 60-degree days…
