WHY I LOVE RACHEL MADDOW

During this divisive Election season, there has been a voice of sanity. Diane and I consider The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC a beacon in the political darkness. Every weekday night, Rachel brings clarity to the political process (she has a PhD.) with good will and a savvy understanding of the dynamics of the electorate. Where other political commentators (Rush Limbaugh, Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity) traffic in fear and hate, Rachel interprets political news with wit and insight. Interviews on TRMS are civil conversations, not yelling matches. Reasonable discourse is the rule, not the exception. If you’re looking for an honest and intelligent voice in these Dark Times, I highly recommend The Rachel Maddow Show.

Phil is madly in love with her. Funny bit on the new Matthew Perry show where people kept mistaking him for her.

Rush and Glenn Beck are extremists, Deb. They attract a certain audience. Rachel is sane and smart; she attracts a different kind of audience.

Jackie is addicted to MSNBC but I find some of them hard to watch. Not Rachel. (I’ll let you supply your own list.)

I want to advise Chris Matthews to cut down on the coffee each time I watch him, Jeff. Ed can grate on my nerves at times. Reverend Al is the weakest link. I wish I could stay up and watch THE LAST WORD with Lawrence O’Donnell every night; he’s another very savvy political guy.

I like Lawrence O’Donnell a lot. Rev. Al and Ed not so much. Chris Matthews is like Joe Scarborough: he’ll ask a question and then talk right over you answering it himself.

I love Rachel Maddow too. I stumbled upon her show when Illinois’ former governor Blagojevich was in the headlines and I’ve followed her ever since.

Diane and I were huge Keith Olbermann fans, Beth. Olbermann promoted Rachel’s show (which followed his on MSNBC) so we became fans of hers, too.

I’ll just be glad after tomorrow when the @#%*&# political ads stop on television and radio!! I stay away from political pundits of every stripe, so no MSNBS etc. for me. We voted almost 2 weeks ago. Oregon is 100% mail-in.

Diane and I will be in line at our local polling place tomorrow, Rick. There’s something Old School about voting in a fire station.

I only wish we were mail in, Rick. New York is way behind the curve . It took us to this year to get new vote scanners. Even Arizona has mail in voting – my father sent his ballot in weeks ago.

If you get rid of your land line all political calls cease like magic.

Unfortuantely, 10 days in Nevada and Arizona led to endless negative campaign ads.

I voted during the early voting week on October 23. No matter how things go tomorrow, come Wednesday, I’m starting “Hillary 2016”!

It wasn’t telephone political calls, Jeff, it was the ads on TV and radio. I may not watch anything tonight except the Monday Night Football game. If that.

How many of you plan to watch the election coverage tomorrow?

I’ll watch until 10 P.M., Rick. Then I’m going to bed and plan to wake up to watch MORNING JOE on MSNBC. We may not know who won the Election for days.

There has to be a Hispanic on the ticket in 2016, Patti. That demographic is so important (and growing!) that it needs to be represented.

If Romney wins tomorrow (scary thought!), he’ll also be 69 in 2016 and will undoubtedly run for a second term. 69 isn’t that old anymore.

I’m 63 and I just don’t have the energy to be President (if nominated, I will decline; if elected, I will not serve), Deb. I’ll be running on empty at 69. I think the country deserves a younger President who has the pep to run the Government properly.

Clinton “deserves” the presidency? If not her, then perhaps someone remotely committed to looking out for the people’s interests ahead of corporate interests (yes, I ask for the Moon). As Robert Reich notes in the current PROGRESSIVE magazine issue, Obama is a Rockefeller Republican…and in calling for an end to the wars in 2008, Obama took his ONLY stand that differed in any real way from HRC’s, as well as the only one to the left of Clinton’s.

Jill Stein isn’t an ideal candidate, but I’ll be happy to vote for her later this morning. Such imperfect Democratic candidates as Barbara Boxer or Dick Durban would also be at least an improvement on HRC.

I’ve mentioned before how KO relocated to Current, the Al Gore-co-owned channel, where the chat leans left (as is supposedly does but doesn’t really so much on MSNBC), but KO didn’t enjoy his interaction with management there, either (but THE YOUNG TURKS and other series sometimes have useful or entertaining bits).

I’m not looking for left-leaning political talk, Todd. I’m looking for practical, civil discourse. I’m a fiscal conservative (I love balanced budgets!) and a social liberal (bordering on libertarianism) so there really is no political party for me.

Well, goodness, George, you need a European-style Radical Party, the closest they come to a Libertarian Party with a stronger dose of Whig-liberalism.

KO was never civil. Some of what’s on Current and Link TV is very civil and incisive. Maddow is certainly the default best of MSNBC’s hosts.

And Obama, sadly, came out of center-right-field…as did HRC.

There’s the Ideal Candidate, Todd, and then there’s the Realty that you need someone who can win Elections. Although Bill Clinton is flawed, the guy knows how to win.

Well George I think I made my position in this election pretty clear. If Elected, I promised tax-free tuition assistance for college girls who go out with old bald guys. I thought the idea would take off but….
