WILDCARD By Miranda Lambert

I’m not a big Country music fan, but I listen to the music from time to time. Miranda Lambert attracted my attention because her parents were private investigators who sometimes used young Miranda in their work. Miranda’s new CD, Wildcard, garnered some mixed reviews because of the “pop” elements that Country purists found objectionable. For example, “Mess With My Head” is more Rock & Roll than country (take a listen below). But, by and large, Lambert delivers enough Country songs on this CD to satisfy most of the genre’s listeners. I enjoyed the variety of songs on Wildcard. Are you a Miranda Lambert fan? GRADE: B

No. I know who she is, but I don’t listen to country these days (the last time I really listened to a lot of country was the ’70s) and I wouldn’t be able to identify one of her songs from those of any other singer of her era.

Jeff, I was drawn to Miranda Lambert because of her story about her Private Eye parents. Her music is listenable and occasionally humorous.

I’m not a country music fan either, prefer rock&roll or real ballads – though I#ll make an exception for Krist Kristofferson, Glen Campbell and Johnny Cash – at least some of their records.
I remember how surprised/flabbergasted I was when I heard that Kristofferson wrote “Me and BobbyMcGee”.
Since we only listen to radio while driving we don’t hear much country, it’s not too popular in Europe.

Wolf, Country bands tour constantly and their fans show up. The Country Music radio station in Buffalo always gets good ratings.

Not much of a country fan . Country seems to be dominated by a group of male singers who all sound alike. More like Bon Jovi with a southern accent than real country.
Lambert has a decent reputation but I don’t know her music. This sounds more like rock mainly because of the punched up drums. I do like some more traditional country and Americana(Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Avett Brothers, Iris Dement, Johnny Cash)) But most country music now bores me.
If you feel yourself inclined to purchase the new Leonard Cohen don’t. Pretty lackluster unfortunately.

Most of the country music I liked (Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, and just a very few others), was gone long before even the British Invasion. Although I’ll admit to having heard of Miranda Lambert I’ve never intentionally heard any of her music.

Not listening to much music nowadays. Mostly podcasts it seems. I think this has been my way for many years.

We’ve been to some country music concerts over the years – Dolly Parton (a free concert at City Hall 25-30 years ago), Willie Nelson (several times, including one with the Highwaymen) , the Dixie Chicks. Also Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell (and Emmylou

herself with Steve Earle and others), Alabama, Lonestar, plus people like Los Lonely Boys and The Mavericks. Shania Twain.

I guess it was more than I thought.

Good to know, thank you both!
I became a big fan of Leonard in the 60s already but maybe this latest posthumous record is just about the money …
