YES By Sam Feldt featuring Akon

Every Summer, there seems to be a song that captures the spirit of the season. A few years ago Fergie’s “Big Girls Don’t Cry” could be heard on the sun-kissed streets of Western New York. A couple years ago, Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” dominated the airwaves and downloads. I suppose it started back in 1966 with the Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer in the City.”

My nomination for Summer Song 2017 is “Yes” by Sam Feldt featuring Akon. Happy, bouncy, merry music! Do you have a favorite Summer Song?

Just heard yesterday again somewhere on tv:
Summertime, and the living is easy …

Of course that’s very different kind of music!

Btw my wife also liked it immediately she heard it, many years ago in Communist times – Gershwin’s music was one of the few things coming from Capitalism allowed in Hungary …

Summertime Thing by Chuck Prophet. Not a hit but should have been.
Love Janis Joplin’s version of Summertime.
Summertime by the Jamies-I have to take a minority opinion here. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it.

“Hot town, Summer in the City,
Back of my neck getting dirty and gritty…
All around, people looking half dead,
Walking on the sidewalk, hotter than a match head.”

That says it all. In the summer of 1966 I was working in Midtown Manhattan, and it was Just. That. Hot. It was a very hot summer – I remember going to the beach at the end of June/beginning of July and having to leave by noon because the sand became too hot to walk on.

Jackie doesn’t like “Summertime, Summertime” either. She votes for “something by the Beach Boys ” or the original version of “See You in September.”

Those hot summers – I used to spend them at my parents’ home while at schooland as a student. The nice thing:
The house was just 100 meters from the public baths in the river Neckar …
So if my sisters and I wre hungry or thirsty we’d just run home …

Later my wife and I would usually spend much of the summer on a nudist camp site in “Communist” Yugoslavia – prices were really good for us German Capitalists.
As a freelancer in IT I worked part time – as a specialist I could afford it and my wife also worked part time in a hospital (did the last 10 nights very month) – that gave us a lot of free time …

And of course summer songs from Blues and Rock were always running …

Wolf, when I was a kid, gas was cheap (25 cents a gallon!) . My friends and I used to cruise around in our parent’s cars with the windows down and the music on the radio turned up LOUD! Fun times!

        A quarter a gallon, wow!

When I got my father’s beetle to use (not too often …) the price was around 50 Pfennig (vomparable to a quarter then) for a liter!

        Totally OT re summer/winter:
I had just started university and came home for Xmas where a friend visited me and my sisters and we talked about how boring it was in the little town after Xmas, nothing to do. Then one of my sisters asked me about London and I talked about the many interesting places, the museums to see and the music venues there …
In the end we decided to ask our parents if we could take the car and drive it to London for a week’s holiday over the New Year – and my parents said yes!
So we drove for almost ten hours, spent the night (five hours) on the ferry and arrived the next morning in London!

        Fanatstic …

Well, George, that’s actually the first time I heard this song.
I liked Justin Timberlake’s song Can’t Stop the Feeling for 2016 and Walk the Moon’s Shut Up and Dance for 2015.
Guess I can’t really choose one for 2017 because I have the Beatles station on Sirius and I’ve been ODing on that for the last few months.

For me it will always be WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO and YOU DON’T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME.

I must say though that I found the lyrics to this song somewhat troubling. If the lips say no, he can’t decide the body says yes. Probably taking it too seriously though.
