A THANK YOU NOTE

page1image686610416

This kind THANK YOU note arrived in yesterday’s mail. You might remember that I donated a box of N95 Respirators to my Primary Care Physician, Dr. Galucci last week (you can refresh your memory here). I’m very moved by that fact that Dr. G took the time out of his frantic day to send me a THANK YOU note. Things are worsening and the doctors and nurses on the Front Line deserve all our help and assistance. It’s scandalous that they don’t have enough protective gear!

Michigan is having problems getting enough gear. And they are dropping like flies. We daughter manages food service at a nursing home. As of a day ago they have had 15 positives. And the presidents rating is going up.

I received a postcard from the CDC yesterday with the words PRESIDENT TRUMP’S GUIDELINES FOR THE CORONAVIRUS in huge bold letters across the front. They were nothing but the CDC’s General guidelines that have been in place for several weeks now, but somehow money was spent sending this postcard to presumably every household in America and (despite his constant rants that the virus was nothing but a Democratic hoax to make him look bad) with Trump’s name emblazoned across the top. In a colossal lack of leadership, forethought, concern, or empathy, Trump makes sure his name gets sent on a postcard to every home. Sometimes there just aren’t words to express my rage!

Deb, we can only hope the American people see through these clumsy attempts to generate positive vibes for the Trump Re-Election bid. But, as P.T. Barnum said, “You can fool all of the people some of the time.”

I also got that card from the CDC, and worse is to come. The checks that are going to be mailed out in accord with the stimulus package are going to be signed by Guess Who? People with direct deposit won’t get an actual check, so that’ll help, and if I’ve read the guidelines correctly I won’t get anything at all. If Trump wants to send me a check for what I’ve lost in the market that’ll be OK.

Michael, the Stock Market will reflect the progress (or lack thereof) battling the coronavirus. The disease is spreading and there’s no end in sight.

I won’t bother repeating what has been said, but this is by far the worst thing he has done yet. He is especially scornful of our governor and we are in a hot spot and need more equipment. He is directly responsible for the death of many thousands of people. By being ill-prepared and by playing politics now. I have never harbored such hate for a person in my life.

Patti, Trump will retaliate against anyone who criticizes or opposes him. You’re right: people in Michigan will die because Trump won’t send ventilators, protective gear, or support because he doesn’t like your Governor. We face the same prospects in New York.

I got that shoddy piece of crap also. I agree with all the above comments. It amazes me that people are so idiotic (his rating in one poll was 60% approval).

This isn’t nice, but our only hope maybe that his supporters go out and infect each other on Easter. (I still think he equates Easter with playboy bunnies)

Maggie, people who ignore the CDC warnings and congregate (for church or at speakeasies or private clubs) risk contracting the coronavirus. We’ve just had a 43-year-old woman with NO underlying medical issues die of the coronavirus. All that hype that only Old People were at risk is bunk. Young people, healthy people, are dying. This is a vicious virus!

From a virologist who attends a church where we sometimes worship: “Make no mistake about it, packed churches for Easter will mean packed graveyards by Pentecost.”

Yep, we got it too, of course. We will qualify for a check, but who knows when one might actually appear? I’m so angry and upset that I’ve had to apply a self-imposed blackout on all things Trump and Trump related. That’s not easy, since he and the Corvid-19 fight are so intertwined, which is just the way he likes it. He gets free press coverage every day, while the Democratic candidates for the November election are shuttered. We used to have an equal time rules, but of course this is different. Bah.

I wrote a post a couple of days ago about Corvid testing. It was full of rage and despair, so much so that when Barbara proofed it, she said I shouldn’t put it up, so I didn’t. Not that I need a test now, but a lot of people do, and can’t get one, especially in smaller-by-population states.

I have been out of the house just once in the last three weeks, that to drive Barbara to the grocery store, just to get out. I didn’t go in, just stayed in the car, but it was nice to get a small change of scenery. Otherwise. it’s home all the time, and that’s fine. I’m high risk in every way a person can be (except pregnant) so I’m scared as hell.

Rick, a disturbing number of “young” people–in their 30s and 40s–have died here from the coronavirus. Supposedly, it was Old Folks who were supposed to be the “vulnerable” segment. But, this virus is a killer that doesn’t differentiate by age it seems. Stay vigilant!

There’s nothing I can do but stay home, and wash my hands. I can’t even pick up an Amazon package from UPS, because they aren’t delivering anything here. My Amazon orders are on hold, and all that. So “vigilant” means stay inside and look out the window. Or read a book and all that.

Rick, we’re still getting AMAZON deliveries from UPS and the USPS, but they’ve slowed. No more 2-day delivery here.

Nice. Yes, it is incredible. The urgent care places and the hospital ER all had proper equipment, but so many people don’t.

Jeff, tomorrow I’m going to focus on trying to find a home for more equipment that might help in the fight against the coronavirus. Stay tuned…

One good note for us. The Daily News had a chart this morning showing that, as you would expect, the poorest areas of the city have been hit the hardest. (Plus the Orthodox Jews in Borough Park, who kept having weddings and the like.) Despite Bay Ridge being officially considered a NORC (Naturally Occurring Retirement Community), we have the lowest infection rate in Brooklyn and among the lowest in the city. Maybe it is because seniors LISTEN and stay home.

Jeff, the people that don’t LISTEN and don’t STAY HOME are taking risks they might regret. The coronavirus is very contagious…and merciless.

I’m sure they were just as touched by you taking time out of the pandemic chaos to remember them.
Now they’re being put to better use than they were in your cupboard.

Beth, Diane deserves all the credit for the N95 masks. I had completely forgotten about them. Diane is in a Marie Kondo mood and she “decluttered” the Pantry a couple weeks ago so she knew the box of N95 masks was up there. I’m happy to help our doctors and nurses during this crisis!
