I’m a fan of Martha Wells’ Murderbot series about a SECURITY UNIT robot who hacks his governor module and goes rogue. The books are all narrated by the snarky SecUnit as it tries to take advantage of being freed from the software shackles of corporations.
In Fugitive Telemetry (2021), SecUnit investigates a murder on a space station. The murder leads SecUnit to discover the space station software was hacked and death could be around the corner. I’m always fond of SF novels with mysteries in them and Fugitive Telemetry had me guessing right up to the end. GRADE: A-
If you’d like to read my reviews of the previous five books in the series, just clink here, here, here, here, and here. Highly recommended!
I liked the ones I’ve read and need to catch up with the others.
Deb would say that she saw Fugitive Telemetry open for Bowie.
😉
Jeff, as Bill Crider would say, “‘Fugitive Telemetry’ is a great name for a band!”
Haven’t read any by her — a situation I should correct.
Jeff, Fugitive Telemetry may have opened for Bowie. They did, however, refuse to play at Trump’s inaugural.
Jerry, your wit is in fine form this morning!
These are intriguing, and I’d like to read them, but I have the “too many books, too little time” problem.
Rick, the MURDERBOT series are all quite short…around 150 pages each. Also fun and fast reads!
OT – have you written about this movie yet, George?
Tom Hanks in Finch
It has very positive reviews in German media.
Wolf, I might get around to watching FINCH next week. The reviews here have been mixed.
I read the first couple and enjoyed them but have not got around to the rest. I probably will. Like Rick said-just too many books.
Steve, I know what you and Rick mean. I’m drowning in books!
I’m woefully behind with new material beyond what I read in the new issues of the various fiction magazines. And the few other which publish fiction (HARPER’S, THE NEW YORKER, AMERICAN SCHOLAR…BUST…) I still need to dip more into my newish annuals.
Todd, it’s hard to keep up with periodicals. I read three newspapers per day and access a few more online. Sometimes, it’s overwhelming!
