Deb, Happy Valentine’s Day to you and John! I’m taking Diane to a movie of her choice this afternoon and then we’re having dinner at Diane’s favorite local restaurant, The Hideaway Grill. On Special Occasions, like Valentine’s Day, The Hideaway Grill features a harpist playing classic tunes. We love it!

I’m anticipating the Cap’n here (though I could be wrong) in saying I’ve always felt Valentine’s Day was a Hallmark-created holiday abetted by the candy and flowers industries. Or maybe I’m just not a very romantic guy. (I’m sure Jackie would say it’s the latter.) Enjoy it if you celebrate it.

Jeff, Happy Valentine’s Day to you and Jackie! You might be right about today being a manufactured holiday, but if it offers the opportunity to delight Diane with a movie and a dinner, I’m all for it!

There is always a good reason for dinner and a movie! Have fun.

We’re going out for lunch/brunch, then I have PT and Jackie has a manicure scheduled. We’ll be getting a favorite roast beef hero with gravy for dinner. Yum.

Jeff, I heard an NPR food review yesterday that said the best fries con be found at FIVE GUYS. I plan to sample them this weekend and see if it’s true! Good luck at PT!

Jeff, I haven’t eaten at a McDonalds in 10 years, but I see their commercials all the time. Apparently, McDonalds is now adding bacon bits to their fries.

Because we celebrated our 30th anniversary this weekend with a wonderful weekend at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, we went low-key today: we exchanged cards and chocolate (Dove truffles for John, Russell Stouffers sugar-free assortment for me). As for dinner—I chose Popeyes!

Happy St. Valentine’s Day to you all. My understanding is it was started in Victorian times as a way for gentlemen to send romantic greetings anonymously to women they admired. But the commercial side was quick to get involved. Barbara has banged up her left knee in Barre class, and is in stay-off-it mode for a few days, starting yesterday afternoon. So I made breakfast and I’ll go out to pick up a pizza for early dinner. But romance can bloom anywhere, including here in our lovely home, by the fireplace, watching the rain and reading a book, perhaps a mug of hot chocolate in hand. Ahhh.

George, I hope you two enjoy your dinner out, and Jeff, your brunch and your roast beef hero dip (is it gravy, or au ju?).

I’d be envious of Diane and your plans for tonight but I’d have to pass on the harpist.
Have a great day, both of you!

Beth, Diane is a big fan of the harpist. THE HIDEAWAY GRILL also gives a rose to each woman who dines there tonight. And chocolate for the men. If you return to Western New York, we’ll be happy to take you there unless you’d prefer the gaudy SALVATOR’S ITALIAN GARDENS where we took you and Maggie last time.

Jeff nailed it, this is another Bah! Humbug! occasion for me, although I give the obligatory card and candy! I recall years ago trying to go out to dinner and we couldn’t find a restaurant anywhere that wasn’t packed to the rafters and had an hour wait list!

On the up side, we finally got a mail delivery–the first since last Thursday! Neither rain nor snow…! What a crock!

Sorry to be late to the party, hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
My wife visited the dentist on Wednesday and he told her he had to pull two wisdom teeth because of inflammation – immediately!
So yesterday for her it was just drinking from a straw …
And today she’s still on soup and soft boiled eggs – no milk, no butter or sausage, only very soft bread. I gave her hamburger buns – without the sesame …

    Re Five Guys:
We only were there once – in Savannah near the riverfront – the portions were just to big for us …
And if I remember correctly, you couldn’t have a salad instead of the fries.

Wolf, I tend to avoid “fast-food” places like FIVE GUYS. But the review of their “world-class” French fries intrigued me. Wisdom teeth tend to be removed when Americans are in their twenties or thirties.
