LEGION, SEASON TWO FINALE (FX)

This second season of Legion upped the ante with surrealism and Time Travel. Dan Stevens plays David Haller, a powerful mutant who has been treated as a schizophenic since childhood. He had also been infected by an alien presence who calls itself Amahl Farouk or Shadow King. David managed to oust Shadow King at the end of Season One, but now Shadow King is searching for his body which will restore his full, terrible powers.

I like the women in Legion. Jean Smart plays a telepath. Rachel Keller plays Sydney ‘Syd’ Barrett, David’s girlfriend in the present and the Future. Aubrey Plaza plays the psychopathic Lenny Busker. There’s also a guy with a basket on his head protected by female cyborgs with mustaches. Yeah, go figure.

If you’re looking for something far, far from ordinary, you might give Legion a try. It’s brilliant, confusing, and frequently baffling. But fun! Legion has been renewed for a Third Season. GRADE: B+

I like Legion even if I’m not sure what the hell is going on half the time. At least it’s interesting. Syd Barrett-homage to a founding member of Pink Floyd. Noah Hawley is basically the creative mind behind this ( also behind Fargo). After hearing some of the songs covered I looked them up-Hawley did those too. He also published a good novel about two years ago called Before the Fall.

Steve, Naah Hawley creates a unique world in LEGION. I’m willing to continue the ride even though I don’t know where we’re going.

Mutants, telepaths etc were a new feature in SF in the 60s – does this prove again that SF tv series are 50 years behind the SF literature?
Maybe I’ll try to watch it – if and when it appears here in Europe.

Wolf, the only thing holding back a lot of SF concepts in movies was the lack of Special Effects technology. With CGI, a lot of those problems have been solved.

        Totally OT re CGI:
I just read a fascinating report that the effects from the latest Star Warms movies were so cpmloicated and timeconsuming that parts were sent out all over the world to realise – so several German studios also worked on them, good money from Hollywood I assume … 🙂
The same goes for star Trek Discovery and other new movies – it’s a global effort!

        Maybe interesting for ST fans.
The German company Pixomondo used the concept of a ST series from the 70s that wasn’t realised:
        Star Trek Phase Two
For this they already had designed space ships …

Well, Rick, films haven’t been so very good at casting women, particularly women who weren’t pale Caucasians (and preferably youngish) for quite a long time, with rare exceptions of certain types of films…
