OAKLAND RAIDERS VS. BUFFALO BILLS

The Big News here is the trade that sent million dollar per game Defensive Tackle Marcell Dareus to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a Sixth Round pick. Clearly, the Bills executed a classic “Salary Dump” by moving Dareus. The Buffalo Bills drafted Dareus in 2011 with the Third overall pick in the First Round. Dareus made the Pro Bowl in 2013 and 2014. In the 2014 season, Dareus had 10 sacks and 49 tackles. The Bills signed Dareus to a $100 million contract extension.

But then Dareus flunked a drug test, was suspended for a game in 2015, flunked another drug test, was suspended for four games in 2016, and Dareus’s performance fell off the cliff.

Dareus is just one more flunked drug test from a mandatory 10 game suspension. The Bills had to be delighted that the Jags were willing to take Dareus off their hands (and free up millions under the Salary Cap!).

The Bills are 3-point favorites today against the Raiders. How will your NFL team do today?

The surprisingly 4-2 Saints, now winners of four games in a row, meet the 3-4 Bears in the Superdome today. I’ll be watching while doing mundane Sunday chores (laundry, ironing, writing bills) and making a big pot of split-pea soup (our weather has finally chilled and it’s soup time again!). Then I’ll be kicking back tonight to watch Game 5 of the World Series between the Dodgers and Astros. The teams have each won two games, so there will be at least one more game after tonight in the best-of-seven series.

I hope the Bills win. I hope whoever plays the LA Chargers and Rams win. I hope (probably futile) that my Packers win. I hope the Saints win.

I have to say that for the past couple of seasons, my interest in football in general has declined. More surprisingly, my friend Nancy ( a HUGE fan, more so than her husband who just went to the games for her) also has much less interest in the game in general.

I’m more apt to watch the games just to get ratings up to protest the orange Bozo in DC. But I’m also wanting to clear out my DVR from my recent trip.

Every time it looks like the Lions might have a good season, they don’t. Surely the most disappointing franchise in the NFL.

Patti, the Bills haven’t made the NFL Playoffs in 17 years. But, we like the new Head Coach and General Manager of the Bills. They’re making necessary changes and building a team that can contend in the AFC East.

George, we were talking about the lack of diversity in Major League Managers yesterday – two black managers out of 30 teams, both made the playoffs, yet one was already fired and the other is in the World Series – and Jackie said, “At least Rex Ryan is out of a job.”

Jeff, the treatment of minorities in professional sports management is abysmal. America has a long way to go to achieve equality.

The Giants will do great! Their best performance of the season. I can 100% guarantee you that they will not lose today!

OK, you guessed it. This is the bye week for the pathetic 1-6 Giants.

Hey George, I see the Bills will be in the Meadowlands on Thursday to take on the Jets. The weather will be a lot nicer (upper 50s, pleasant) Thursday than it is today – they are predicting up to four inches of rain, followed tonight by 50 mph winds. I’m expecting lot of toppled trees by morning. In a spooky coincidence, today is the fifth anniversary of Superstorm Sandy.

We’re not leaving the house today.

Jeff, the whole East Coast will be affected by that tropical storm. We’re expecting high winds and rain during the Oakland vs. Bills game so the passing game will be influenced as the game goes on. The Jets game should be interesting.
